EBONY remembers Michael Wright, an acclaimed actor whose iconic performances across film and television left an undeniable mark on Black culture. Few roles have been ingrained into the culture quite like Eddie King Jr. in 'The Five Heartbeats.' Wright captured the brilliance, pain and humanity of a character viewers still connect with deeply 35 years later, helping cement the film as one of Black cinema’s most enduring classics. But his legacy stretched far beyond one role. From his award-winning turn in 'Streamers' to scene stealing performances in 'V,' 'Sugar Hill,' 'Oz' and 'Black Lightning,' Wright brought an emotional depth to every role that made even the most complicated characters impossible to forget. His work will live on through the stories he helped bring to life... and through the generations of audiences who will continue to discover, celebrate and remember his artistry. Rest in peace, Michael Wright. 🖤
