Rower Otim
Makes Waves
Uganda's Marcel Otim made a commendable account of himself yesterday in the rowing men's solo beach sprint.
The 17yr-old sprinted across the sand on Saly Beach West, powered through the Atlantic Ocean waves, and crossed the line in 3:24.00 in the opening time trial.
He finished ahead of Great Britain's Louie Walker. Facing some of the world's best young coastal rowers, Otim stayed composed through every stage of the race.
Otim then returned today and completed his second time trial, clocking 3:04.97 which was 19 seconds quicker than his opening his day one run in rough tides. His beach run took 11.00 seconds and his row 2:54.86. That left him 24th, outside the top eight who advanced to the last 16 and gave him an overall 32nd placement.
