How can partnerships unlock trade opportunities across the Global South? At the 2026 ‘Aid for Trade Global Review’ in Geneva, UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib highlighted how #SouthSouth and #TriangularCooperation can address trade barriers, strengthen regional partnerships and translate Southern expertise into shared development gains. Her engagement included the launch of a joint WTO-UNOSSC report, “Transformative Partnerships for Trade Resilience: South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Action”; and a meeting with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Highlighting @UNOSSC’s engagement during the 10th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation in Lisbon, organized by @OECDdev and @camoes_ip, Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) reflected on constructive discussions on digital transformation and recommendations for the next phase of triangular cooperation. The Director emphasized the need to reduce fragmentation and strengthen triangular cooperation’s place within the wider development cooperation ecosystem, grounded in the principles of South-South cooperation and complementing its efforts. She highlighted the Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation as a platform to connect countries, development partners, the UN system, multilateral development banks and the private sector around shared priorities. At the 10th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation in Lisbon, @UNOSSC colleagues hosted an interactive clinic on the Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation. Participants learned about UNOSSC’s work supporting strategic leadership and building capacities and partnerships to advance South-South and triangular cooperation. They explored how to engage with the Global Alliance, share their countries’ and institutions’ development needs and expertise, and connect with potential partners across regions and sectors. On the margins of the 10th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation in Lisbon, @UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) met with Martín Clavijo (@Clavijo_Martin), Executive Director of the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (@AuciUruguay), to explore opportunities for closer collaboration. The discussion highlighted Uruguay’s experience in South-South and triangular cooperation and opportunities to connect its expertise with partners across regions. As an active partner in South-South and triangular cooperation, AUCI is finalizing its registration with the Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation, opening new avenues for peer learning, knowledge exchange and partnerships that respond to countries’ development priorities. During the 10th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation in Lisbon, @UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) met with Director General Prof. Sachin Kumar and Dr. Sushil Kumar of Research and Information System for Developing Countries (@RIS_NewDelhi), an autonomous think tank affiliated with India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The discussion highlighted the importance of research in understanding what works, informing policy and bringing Global South perspectives into development discussions. RIS’s links with government and research networks are helping turn evidence into policy and strengthen South-South and triangular cooperation. The Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation will offer RIS opportunities to connect its research and expertise with country priorities and new partners. @UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) met with Myungjin Kim and Sangeun Lee of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on the margins of the 10th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation in Lisbon. Discussions focused on the achievements of the ROK–UNOSSC Facility and opportunities to build on these results in its next phase. From solar-powered water treatment in Cambodia to flood-warning systems in Lao PDR, smart water management in Thailand and renewable energy-powered desalination in Viet Nam, the Facility demonstrates how countries can adapt proven solutions to local needs, drawing on shared expertise to address interconnected water, energy and food security challenges. Looking ahead, both sides discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration. The Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation offers a further avenue for KOICA to expand partnerships, connect expertise with country priorities and share tested solutions through South-South Galaxy+. #SouthSouthCooperation #TriangularCooperation #SDGs @officialkoica

Advancing a sustainable blue economy through cooperation across regions. At the 10th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation in Lisbon, @UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) met with Ambassador Florbela Alhinho Paraíba, President of Camões, I.P. (@camoes_ip), to discuss the next phase of Portugal–UNOSSC cooperation. The Blue Economy initiative, supported by Portugal and implemented with @unesco_iesalc and @UNOSSC, has connected Angola, Chile, Jamaica and Portugal, producing resources to support participating institutions. The discussion centred on putting these resources to use and identifying country priorities for further cooperation. The Director welcomed Portugal’s participation in the Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation through Camões, noting opportunities to share expertise, initially in education, climate and the environment, food systems and agriculture. Portugal’s expertise and catalytic support can help extend this work to interested partners, including Lusophone countries and small island developing States. Building on the Blue Economy experience and the joint Call for Results, the meeting explored opportunities to connect institutions seeking solutions with those offering relevant knowledge.
