Appreciated this corrective intervention against The Atlantic's recent American-centric take on atrocities in Sudan. Five contributors forcefully show the shortcomings of stating "there isn't anything to replace [the liberal world order]" in Sudan. thecontinent.org/_files/ugd/…

Statement of the @_AfricanUnion Commission on US Travel ban.
The Commission has taken note of the proclamation by the US Government imposing new travel restrictions affecting nationals from several countries, including some on the African continent.
While recognising the sovereign right of all nations to protect their borders & ensure the security of their citizens, the AU Commission respectfully appeals to the United States to exercise this right in a manner that is balanced, evidence-based, and reflective of the long-standing partnership between the US & Africa. au.int/en/pressreleases/2025…

Pleased to participate in the 3rd EU-AU Ministerial Meeting in Brussels. The AU Commission team, led by the Chairperson @ymahmoudali, & his deputy, H.E. @DCP_Haddadi engaged constructively with AU Member States to advance Africa’s strategic priorities, aligned with the continent’s development agenda and shared aspirations.
Calling #Gaza a "genocide" and "ethnic cleansing", @ymahmoudali rightly says "if there is an international law, and if we want to preserve this international law, we must begin to protect the Palestinian people and restore to them the rights they deserve, stolen for many years."

How does the @_AfricanUnion Commission view the upcoming EU-AU ministerial? Clear criticism about Global Gateway investments and other 2022 Summit investments being elusive. But the summit is „very important for us given the international geopolitics“ vimeo.com/event/5124071
First public press briefing by Mahmoud Ali Youssef as AU Commission Chairperson. Gabon was unsuspended, and the AUC started a „constructive dialogue“ with #AES countries and has invited leaders to Addis Ababa "for the purpose of consultations". vimeo.com/event/5124071

How did the African Group vote the Ukraine-sponsored resolution in the UNGA "Advancing a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in #Ukraine"? The African Group's support for Ukraine has slightly decreased compared to support to resolutions in the first two years of the invasion.
The dramatic reversal of the USA's position on Ukraine, which swayed few allies except Israel, is of course the main story. European allies have much to grapple with. Attention on Africa might be further reduced.
