I agree @jameswester, for U.S. Investors tokenized equity is just incremental, but intentional is a different story. I hear non-U.S. Institutions concerned a U.S. administration "could be arbitrary" in how they sanction, freeze, seize or tax assets. Off-shore tokenization adds new protections to investors in other jurisdictions. It is the same reason countries are repatriating their gold and moving off SWIFT. Longer term, direct issuer offerings via smart-contracts has the potential to radically reduce banker fees/expense. More in globalipobook.com/
I have had some serious, good-faith engagement here, and I genuinely appreciate it. I have been writing about this for a decade, and came to the idea of tokenizing assets long before most (and I have the receipts). I still think it's an important use case for the tech, and I look forward to seeing how it develops.
But the reason I'm poking on claims like this is because post M2020 and SIBOS this year, I'm becoming increasingly vexed by the sheer weight of balderdash being thrown around regarding asset tokenization.
Will it be more efficient? Sure. Will it change markets? Sure. Will it also introduce significant risks to global markets, some of which could be catastrophic to a wider swath of investors? Certainly. Do those saying "Trillions and trillions of dollars will be unlocked" have any clue what that means? Almost certainly not. They are selling the layers on which they hope those trillions will be recorded.
When it's all upside being offered with no costs, it's a sales pitch.
How? great question @jameswester @CryptoAmerica_
1.) Tokenization is more inclusive as it operates in all timezones, 24x7
2.) More Leverage, US margin maxes around 50%, onshore self-liquidating tokenized leverage can be 10x
3.) Real-time, with less rehypothecation resulting in more transparency and less counterparty risk
4.) more liquidity for small caps, as the market is more global and inclusive
5.) easer for some AI based market participants

“Actually, in America, the reading of books is up. Sales of print books have increased nearly twenty-five per cent from a decade ago. The number of independent bookstores in the United States has climbed steeply since 2009, with a seventy-per-cent increase since 2020.”

interesting. would be great for society if marketplaces had competition to lower their rake. also- ratings and other marketplace functions matter.
The marketplace moat is going down…personal agents materially weaken the historical truth of liquidity begetting more liquidity. With agents like Muse, ~all supply across the internet and offline world will be discoverable, not just what’s housed in the dominant marketplace people know to visit. Supply doesn’t need an aggregator to be found, will multi home, won’t accept the rake, etc etc. and demand will programmatically find the best supply at the best price, regardless of whether its online or offline, requires a deep web search, agentic phone calls to offline establishments, email inquiry and negotiation, whatever. The world just isn’t gonna need marketplaces for transactions to clear. Of course there are categories, especially where a marketplace isn’t purely governed by economic theory, that are more insulated, but that’s the exception…most marketplaces are in for a rude awakening.
.@cburniske is right, the rate is accelerating. I believe, AI may end up being the UI/UX breakthrough blockchains needed for mass adoption.

We're the most technically advanced civilization in history. And the least competent at the same time.
SpaceX can catch a rocket. Delta can't land you at JFK on time, makes you rawdog the flight, and loses your bag.
Amazon gets you a package in 4 hours. The DMV needs 6 weeks for a license.
AI can pass the bar exam. Public schools can't teach kids how to do basic math.
Your watch can detect AFib. Your insurance needs 3 weeks to approve a visit.
Your car can spot a pedestrian and brake on its own. Your city can't keep needles off the sidewalk.
AI can design a new protein. Your hospital can't send you a correct bill.
AI can draw a building in minutes. The city takes three years to approve a duplex.
Satellites and cameras can track a car across the city. A man with 30 arrests walks out the next morning.

Everyone assumes tokenization means faster markets. Assume again.
Atomic settlement only works if cash and asset sit on the same ledger, or ledgers that can talk to each other. Right now we have stablecoins, CBDCs and tokenized deposits sitting in separate silos, a genuine "multi-moneyverse."
Banks won't give up payments, but they need stablecoins for retail reach. So we get both, not one winner, and every tokenized trade now needs its own cash-leg strategy.
Is fragmenting the market for money really the progress tokenization promised?

Tokenized equities are breaking records, and we are still early.
The total market cap of onchain tokenized stocks is now up to a record $3.5 billion.
That marks another +33% increase in this month and +860% growth year-over-year.
Growth has accelerated after the SEC's recent Innovation Exemption was announced.
This grants onchain platforms a 5-year "sandbox period" to legally trade tokenized versions of real US stocks.
As a result, Jupiter, the largest onchain platform which is leading the push into tokenized assets, has seen a +104% surge in tokenized equity trading volume this month.
The push toward tokenization is in full-swing.
