9 months of @thisisoddkid and we already have a slate of 10 projects in the works. Some are in very early development, some are in development for streamers, some are fully funded, others are in negotiations. It’s been a pretty wild ride so far, and if there’s one thing I’m becoming increasingly convinced of, it’s that AI is a catalyst, not magic. It makes exploring ideas faster, experimenting cheaper and bringing worlds to life more accessible than ever. But it doesn’t tell you which ideas are worth pursuing, which stories are worth telling, or where you should spend your time and energy. At the end of the day, it still comes down to what you believe deserves to exist. And then doing the work to make it happen.

MOLT from @henrydaubrez is looking awesome.
MOLT. 🦊🦅 Considering the reception of the first clip I shared, I thought I’d give you another little glimpse into this universe we’re currently developing at @thisisoddkid. MOLT is still in its very early days, and explores a darker, more mature direction than some of our other projects. There’s still a lot to figure out, but I’m pretty excited about where this one could go. We might also have a few announcements about Odd Kid before the end of the year. 👀 In the meantime, let me know what you think of MOLT. And if you’d like to see more of this world, a little like, comment or share goes a long way! 🖤

The gap between AI filmmaking and business is getting bigger. Right now there are 2 sides: creators with actual films, actual stories, actual product and there are companies who claim to have best workflow and "chosen ones" creators with product made with same tools and same workflows as indie creators. First ones are not selling anything because they don't have means but they have actual product. The others sell the hype without any actual product. Just average workflows available to everyone. Interesting where it will all lead.

Everyone is arguing about whether AI is a bubble and that's probably the wrong question. The bubble is happening in companies whose only customer is another AI company.

We’re transitioning into a world where @PsyopAnime doesn’t need Hollywood as much as Hollywood needs them.
Hollywood could have had PsyopAnime before it was PsyopAnime Generational fumble

Most of the people who promoted mismanagement in media over the past 8 years are now out of power and that regime is over. If you’re a mid-level apparatchik who was aligned with that cause, can you pivot your brand from super political to super entertaining? We will see.

Huzzah! Hear me out… Can the re-release outperform the original release of the film? I think it's possible. Christopher Nolan is in such different position now as a filmmaker, and so many of his fans didn't have the opportunity to see the film 20 years ago.
Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige, reappearing in select theaters on 70MM film and IMAX on January 29.

I love a good copyright law story. Check out this article from @TheAnkler. @buildwithVN is tackling the challenge of attribution of human input in copyrighting creative content.
Hollywood doesn’t want AI generating its IP without permission, but it does want to use AI to create the next Star Wars. So how do you create with AI and still establish ownership of the work? That’s the problem we’re tackling. @TheAnkler and @AshleyCullins spoke with our @nelsonchu_ about why it matters and what we’re building. theankler.com/behind-closed-…

Hollywood would love to stop AI from using its IP without permission but it also wants to use AI to help make its next IP. I spent months talking to people in the industry about that distinction. @TheAnkler and @AshleyCullins dug into what it means and what we’re doing at @buildwithVN to address it. theankler.com/behind-closed-…

Congress has banned futures trading on two things: onions and movie box office. The box office ban was snuck through in an 11th hour revision to the Dodd-Frank act by MPAA lobbyists, to insulate movie studios from investors. law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/…
University of Chicago Students to Protest at Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Demand End to Federal Ban on Onion Futures Student-led group For Our Futures will rally Monday morning to call for repeal of the 1958 Onion Futures Act On Monday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m., members of For Our Futures, a student-led organization from @UChicago, will gather outside the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (@CMEGroup) headquarters to demand the repeal of the Onion Futures Act of 1958, a nearly 70-year-old federal law prohibiting futures trading in onions. The Onion Futures Act, enacted following allegations of market manipulation in the 1950s, singled out onions for a prohibition on futures contracts that remains in effect today. For Our Futures is calling on Congress to repeal the ban and restore the ability of onion growers, buyers, and traders to participate in a regulated futures market. Onions remain the only commodity banned from futures trading in the United States. The protest will feature a giant inflatable onion costume, protest signs, and dozens of students, and will take place outside the headquarters of CME Group, one of the world's largest derivatives marketplaces and the historic center of American onion futures trading. So awesome for @lizrhoffman to highlight the onion law. Two years ago I was advising a company that intended to lobby to rescind it. Find "prohibition against dealings in motion picture box office receipts or onion futures" in the US code here → law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/…
Your regular reminder that onion futures are illegal because two guys cornered it 70 years ago. The Onion Futures Act of 1958 was expanded in 2010 to cover movie box office futures, which is why you have to use a VPN to bet on whether Dunesday will beat Barbenheimer polymarket.com/predictions/m…

The point of AI video or an AI video platform is not AI, it’s to deliver all the stuff that Hollywood refuses to deliver. Stuff that’s funny. Crazy premises and aesthetics. When costs are low you can be fun, experimental and outrageous. Which is a pretty huge market gap. Down with committees. Down with sameness. Corporate rock sucks.
