Our analysis shows that health and well-being of some critical workers, including health and care workers, food system workers, cleaners and refuse workers, transport workers and protective services workers, were at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic because of poor job quality.

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices. However, this year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.

Our report is published!
Minimum wage earners in most EU countries have benefited from increases in statutory minimum wages over the past decade. CEE countries enjoyed the largest growth in real gross and net wages, albeit starting from very low absolute levels. 👇👇👇
📈Minimum wages in the EU increased by 11% in 2023, compared to just 5% in 2022. Latvia hiked its minimum wage by 24%.
Due to inflation, this didn't cause notable increases in purchasing power, but did prevent the erosion of long-term gains.

In 2022, six countries – Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Malta, Portugal and Spain – did not apply PIT on the gross minimum wage.
Workers from countries with similar gross minimum wages do not necessarily end up having the same net wages
