In 2016, Adam Driver brought Kylo Ren onto SNL and gave him a completely different problem: employee satisfaction.
Ren disguises himself as “Matt,” a radar technician, and goes undercover at Starkiller Base to find out what the people working for him really think.
The joke sounds simple.
But Driver plays it with almost no wink to the audience.
He treats “Matt” like a completely serious identity while still carrying all the intensity, insecurity and barely controlled rage of Kylo Ren.
That commitment is what turns the parody into something much bigger than a Star Wars joke.
The funniest part isn't that Kylo Ren is undercover.
It's that even undercover, he desperately wants to know whether people respect him.
