📍 Strengthening Partnerships for Equitable Land Governance in Migration-Affected Communities
UCOBAC team together with Kathrin Zimmermann the country director of AWO International e.V. in Uganda held a courtesy meeting with Mr Solomon Osakan, the principal settlement commandant representing the Commissioner in charge for Refugees at the Office of the Prime Minister.
The meeting aimed to majorly introduce the Effective and Equitable Land Governance for Migration-Affected Communities in Uganda (EELAG) project and the work the two organizations are doing in migration and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Recognising OPM's critical role in coordinating Uganda's refugee response, the engagement reaffirmed the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in promoting inclusive land governance, resilient livelihoods, peaceful coexistence and self-reliance among migration-affected communities.
Uganda Community Based Association for Women and Children Welfare (UCOBAC) is implementing the EELAG project in consortium with @AFARD_UG , @RICEWestNile and Community Volunteer Initiative for Development (COVOID) supported by AWO International with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Today, @CSBAGUGANDA successfully facilitated the Sub-County Budget Conference in Kosike Sub-County, providing a platform for community members to share their priority needs and concerns to inform local development planning.
Key issues raised included water scarcity across several villages, the lack of a health centre, inadequate office facilities at the sub-county headquarters, and the non-functionality of the approved market.
In response, sub-county stakeholders made several commitments:
- Early Childhood Development (ECD): Establish an ECD centre to serve children in Nataaba Parish and neighbouring villages.
- Sub-county headquarters: Continue with Phase Two of the construction of the sub-county headquarters, following the commitment made in the previous budget.
- Education: The Sub-County Chief, Agwang, pledged to provide additional desks to Kosike Primary School.
The discussions highlighted the importance of citizen participation in budget processes to ensure that community priorities are reflected in local government plans and resource allocation.
Meaningful development begins when citizens have a voice in shaping the budgets that affect their lives.

This #WorldFoodDay, we raise the alarm as hunger, climate shocks and rising food prices threaten millions of Ugandans. With 3.6 million people facing crisis-level food insecurity, urgent action cannot wait. The Alliance calls on the @GovUganda to release emergency food assistance funds, protect vulnerable households, address rising food costs and invest in climate-resilient agriculture.
Food is a RIGHT, not a privilege. Innovation must translate into affordable, safe and nutritious food for ALL.
