A glimpse of how the reservation system works in J&K. Let me tell you a story.
A girl appeared for NEET UG twice and could barely score 200. In her third attempt, she scored around 300. That same year she got an ST-2 certificate. Today she is studying at GMC Jammu.
Now look at her background. Her father is a government employee earning 1.5 lakh a month. Her mother is a government teacher. They own two cars, live in a good house, she uses an iPhone, and she studied at DPS.
Now look at the other side. A labourer’s son scores over 500 yet he isn’t even eligible for EWS.
One family has financial security, a comfortable life and access to opportunities. Another struggles for survival and even a score of 500+ cannot secure the same opportunities.
Tell me, what kind of social justice is this?
Reservation was meant to uplift the disadvantaged not perpetuate privilege at the cost of the poorest.
In Kashmir the already empowered are getting more empowered, while the children of the poor are left wondering what they did wrong.

It will take just one signature from Finance Minister @OmarAbdullah to raise the stipend of MBBS interns who are crying their hearts out. The same signature he used to hike electricity by 6.8% just a week ago.
It will take just one signature of Social Welfare Minister @sakinaitoo to change the criteria for EWS certificates, which is currently so unbalanced that 91% of EWS certificates go to Jammu & only 9% go to Kashmir.
When the NC Govt should have resolved the issues of MBBS interns who have been protesting for the last two days and the OPEN MERIT students who are in deep agony & almost broken, it chooses not to even acknowledge the issues.
Those on the streets, broken & exhausted, are the future of Kashmir. Yet the government has shut its doors on them. This arrogant silence, as if to say we do not care, is so deafening.
