That’s exactly why I think Denmark is taking an enormous risk. Hegseth’s immediate talk of sending large numbers of U.S. troops to Greenland should set off alarm bells. You sign the deal, the U.S. dramatically expands its military presence, and then what happens if Trump decides the deal no longer matters and declares Greenland should be American anyway? Given his repeated annexation rhetoric, I wouldn’t be comfortable giving his administration that kind of leverage.

Honestly, Orla, I'm scared for Greenland here. Trump is a grifting charlatan. You know what they did at the last minute with the Free Trade deal & then lied to the world. Trump et al cannot be trusted.

I have always appreciated you, Lisa. The bond between Denmark, Greenland and USA is almost completely destroyed. It will never be forgotten how the USA threatened us with military invasion and the relationship will never be the same again. An intelligent American president could have gotten the same or a better deal by simply talking to us and then the relationship could have gotten even better than it was. But that is not where we are now.

Not subtle what this is really about from Trump’s standpoint and it’s conquest, not cooperation
ITS HAPPENING

The post's meme implies U.S. annexation of Greenland, but the Sept. 18 agreement expands military access and veto rights without any sovereignty transfer. Greenland remains an autonomous Danish territory. cnn.com/2026/09/18/pol… bbc.com/news/articles/… theguardian.com/world/2026/sep…

Benny Johnson is misleading his 4+ million followers. Trump did not “acquire Greenland.”

Hi Benny! You have more than 4 million followers. Why not tell them the truth? The United States did not “acquire Greenland.” The U.S. has already had extensive military access to Greenland under the 1951 Defence Agreement. That framework already provided for U.S. military facilities and the establishment of additional defence areas by agreement. The new agreement builds on that existing framework. One of its new elements is that non-NATO countries will not be allowed to establish military bases or maintain a troop presence in Greenland. Military access is not ownership.

This is probably a mistake by Denmark and Europe. They've given Trump a win; he'll come back for more when he gets low.
I believe the new agreement between Greenland, Denmark and the United States appears to remain within the framework of the 1951 Defence Agreement. It strengthens U.S. security cooperation in Greenland, but it does not transfer sovereignty over, or ownership of, Greenland to the United States.

Trump is already announcing a military mobilization and once they move in, the U.S. WON'T leave and Denmark won't be able to get them out Trump is already treating this "agreement" as a surrender! It's almost the same deal that Canada walked away from WTF is Denmark thinking?
BREAKING: President Donald J. Trump announces complete and permanent American security control over Greenland, and excludes any adversary from Greenland and the surrounding region.

So it looks like Trump has just reaffirmed the security relationship we already had with our democratic ally, Denmark, but he's trumpeting it as some radical breakthrough. Fits a pattern, of course. But if it ends this nonsensical talk about planning to annex Greenland, that's progress.

The ‘Canada has nothing we need crowd’ is in a froth over Canada trying to sell those same things to someone else. What they’re really saying is that they think they’re entitled to what we have, but at a price they want to name. They need to fix themselves. We’ll do us for now.
