The launch of Women Haven builds on a courageous first step and a journey sustained by many hands.
In the remarks, our Board Chair #AnneNkutu paid tribute to @hildatadria courage in turning a vision into action. The Chair recognised how far the organisation has come as a collective achievement and expressed the Board’s pride in the foundation and legacy built along the way.
That reflection gives meaning to this launch: Women Haven is part of a legacy we share responsibility for carrying forward. Its next chapter will depend on the same commitment, collaboration and belief that brought us here.
As we celebrate this milestone, we invite our network members, partners, and supporters to help turn the promise of this launch into lasting impact.
Connect with MEMPROW to explore how your expertise, resources, or partnership can support Women Haven’s next chapter.

Day 2: together with @UNDPUganda under the @UNSpotlight initiative, we continue to train youth in green skills in Kitgum district. The young people now understand why green skills are important and are grounded in the fact that they can make money out of them. Solving a problem or need and making money out of it. Tomorrow the young people will be doing the hands-on practical training. #YouthGreenSkills #ClimateAction #Cop31

💭“Why is the change resulting from having more women in positions of power not proportional to the increase in the number of women in positions of power?
— Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, Speaker of Parliament of Uganda (2011–2021)
Across Africa, women have made significant gains in leadership and decision-making. Yet, representation alone does not guarantee influence over decisions that shape their lives.
📌Women at the table is the start, not the goal. Their presence must translate into power to influence decisions, shape policies and set priorities. This is especially critical for women affected by conflict and displacement, whose experiences and priorities are often overlooked in peace processes.
Join our policy dialogue on 30 October as we explore how to ensure conflict- and displacement-affected women have a meaningful role in shaping the decisions that affect their lives, their communities and their future.

Ambassador @WilCarew (Head of Secretariat, @AU_ECOSOCC) said migration governance must look beyond simply distinguishing regular from irregular migration.
“We have become quite good at describing the difference between regular and irregular movement in our documents and declarations; we have been much slower at making the regular route an option that ordinary people can actually reach.”
He pointed to limited labour mobility arrangements between African countries, the failure to recognize qualifications across borders and unreliable information on #migration as barriers that shape people’s choices.
“When a work permit takes longer to obtain than a seat in a smuggler's vehicle, and costs more, we should not be surprised by the choices people make.”
He called for greater attention to the conditions that keep the cycle of migration turning, including the lack of decent work, changing livelihoods and the accessibility of regular migration pathways.

💭What does rethinking Africa's prosperity look like? From measuring #GDP to actually measuring well-being and sustainability?- A Key Reflection from the #AfricaPeaceandEnvironmentSummit! (APES 3)
In 2025, Africa’s economy increased by an estimated 4.4%, with growth projected at 4.2% in 2026, according to the @AfDB_Group 2026 Economic Outlook. But the question is, who is benefiting from this growth, and at what cost?
Gross Domestic Product (#GDP) is an important measure of economic activity. It tells us the monetary value of goods & services produced within a country over a given period. But it does not tell the whole story.
GDP measures economic output, not how fairly wealth is distributed, or whether people can access healthcare and education, or whether economic activity is destroying the natural resources communities depend on. This means that an economy can record growth while communities continue to face inadequate access to essential services and deep inequalities. For instance, a country may generate income from extracting its natural resources while simultaneously depleting the very ecosystems its people depend.
This is why we must look beyond #GDP. Economic growth is not the same as human well-being and prosperity. The Human Development Index (#HDI) measures health, education, and standard of living, while complementary indicators help assess inequality, gender disparities, and environmental sustainability.
For Africa, this raises important questions about what we prioritise, what we measure, and who actually benefits from economic growth.
Prosperity must mean more than growing economies. It must mean healthier lives, equitable access to opportunities and resources, reduced inequalities, protected ecosystems, and sustainable peace and livelihoods for all people and not just a few.
Rethinking prosperity therefore requires African governments and institutions to look beyond how much their economies produce and examine how economic progress translates into people's lives, how fairly its benefits are distributed, and whether it can be sustained without compromising the planet.
As #APES3 reminded us, people, planet, peace, and prosperity are interconnected. Prosperity must improve people’s lives, peace must create the conditions for shared prosperity, and both depend on a healthy planet.

State of HIV/Aids:
1. Highest prevalence generally is now among older women, aged 40-44, with prevalence of 15.7%. Told they're also known as SOW
2. For men, highest prevalence is among those aged 45-49, at 11.7%
3. Regionally, South West (Ankole & Kigezi) has highest prevalence (8%, up from 6.3% in 2021), followed by South Buganda at 7.3%
4. Big message? Test and know your status. In Uganda, only 85.3% of adults living with HIV know their status. For those who know, 99% are on treatment & of these 96.5% have achieved viral suppression.
