Poundland has filed to enter administration, putting 11,000 jobs at risk just weeks before Christmas, including here in Brixton. I stand with Poundland workers and @UsdawUnion. The owners must engage with workers and ministers, exploring every option to save jobs and shops.

Because of Labour, a single employee is now £4,460 more expensive to employ. For a business like Poundland - operating on ultra thin margins - you’ve added £49million to their wage bill a year.

🚨 Britain's national debt has ballooned under this Labour government. We now hold a debt of over £3 Trillion. It costs £267 Million a day just to service the interest. 🌳 Only the Conservatives have a fully costed plan to bring down spending and take back control of our economy.

He doesn't like Scrutiny.
PM heading off to the Caribbean shortly, just after a heavily-criticised Budget, with no political reporters allowed. Not the case in the past. The King will be going with the entire royal press pack and will therefore get more scrutiny than the actual Prime Minister.

Wes Streeting the Defence Secretary told us we must be ready for war in 1000 days - so why didn’t the Chancellor in the budget set out the money to pay for the country to be ready, particularly when he resigned from Starmer’s government for not doing so? For such epic failure Healey needs to resign. To see the full podcast click on this link youtu.be/Sh6ELgRYCdY?is=oFM8…

Awkward from two Grand National’s 9 years apart isn’t it? Maybe you can go back and explain when these ladies are on the dole, Mr Healy.
I warmly welcome the Chancellor’s decision to increase the standard rate of Machine Games Duty from 20% to 25% on high-harm machines, as well as excluding adult gaming centres from business rates relief. These are important steps towards putting our communities first and ensuring the tax system better reflects the risks posed by rapid-play, addictive machines. Gambling can devastate lives, tear families apart and leave communities bearing the cost. The Chancellor is right to act – supporting our high streets should mean backing local businesses that help them thrive, not serving the interests of the gambling industry. We must now build on today’s progress with stronger protections. That means swiftly delivering the Government’s commitment to end ‘aim to permit’ and giving councils greater control over the spread of adult gaming centres. It also means tougher action from the Gambling Commission to enforce existing safeguards, alongside further reforms to close loopholes and bolster player protections. This is about fairness and whose interests we put first. For Halesowen and communities across the country, our high streets should serve local people – and I look forward to working with the Government in bringing forward these important changes.

He speaks for so many business people across the country.
‘John Healey, if you’re listening, where’s my breathing space?’ Business owner Paul Bowen has criticised the Chancellor’s promise to give ‘breathing space’ through measures in his Budget. #budget #businesses #costofliving

Burnham demands answers. The arrogance of this incompetent Socialist idiot. The reason why they are going to the wall is thanks to you and your economically illiterate Labour Government. Its about time voters in Makerfield woke up that Burnham is an absolute dud. Never Labour.
NEW: Andy Burnham has demanded answers about the insolvency of Poundland, which has its largest distribution centre in his constituency of Makerfield. The PM tells @Telegraph: "If there was a potential owner to avoid this that hasn’t been accepted, then the Business Secretary and I want to know why that is the case. We stand ready to support the workforce however we can.” Burnham wants to know why Gordon Brothers, the chain's owner, rejected a solvent bid from Ireland’s Martin Property Group for the entire Poundland business earlier this week. Bendy Burnhamitis is spreading. For a long time it was contained in GM. However it's now spread to London. The only known antidote to this virus is to vote @Conservatives and @KemiBadenoch
Andy Burnham's spokesman says the government won't be setting an "arbitrary target or timetable" on reducing the welfare bill. Pressed if Healey misspoke in his Today interview, the spokesman says: "The chancellor is completely in line with what the PM has said over the last few months that the welfare bill needs to come down, and as I say, we're not setting an arbitrary target or timetable on that."

It's like I wrote yesterday. This is not sustainable. And Ministers know it's not sustainable. Which is why they must be planning for a snap election. You can't seriously govern like this.
6am: Healey tells BBC he will bring down benefits bill before election 8:20: Treasury dispute the story 1pm: No10 disown it saying they have never set a target 2pm: PM says cuts as soon as possible 4pm: Healey says Labour won't bring bill down this Parliament

Nothing highlights the fiscal failure of this government more starkly than the plight of Poundland. The chain's 600 stores and 12,000 workers sit on the verge of collapse, not because its customers have walked away - Poundland's sales grew by 6.7% in September - but because of this government's unaffordable tax rises, which makes it impossible to run a business that works on slim profit margins to keep its prices down for its customers. How ironic that a government preaching about helping the least well-off is forcing a company out of business that does just that.

Quite an achievement on Healey's behalf after his Summer stunt.
BREAKING: after Healey’s Budget today, MoD spending will be £1bn per year lower than in the Defence Investment Plan he resigned over👇

Kemi Badenoch had an annoyingly good Prime Minister's Questions today: annoying for her, because no one will remember it. The scrap between the party leaders before the Budget is always overshadowed by the fiscal event that follows immediately afterwards, but the Tory leader made good use of it anyway. She focused all her questions on Andy Burnham's confusion over Britain's relationship with the European Union. Badenoch opened by asking whether the Prime Minister wanted a referendum on rejoining the EU, to which Burnham replied that the 'red lines' in his party's 2024 manifesto would remain. ✍️ Isabel Hardman Article | spectator.com/article/kemi-b… | @IsabelHardman

If Burnham says no election in the next year. Get your money on it being before December next year. That's if any bookmakers are still trading by then!
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has ruled out calling a general election in the next 12 months, as he says his focus is on wanting to help people, not his own party and its prospects. trib.al/xd6AK8n 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

Sadly the budget means less revenue for @UKLabour, higher taxation for normal people and more people out of work. When a Government doesn’t understand simple mathematics or an industry like horse racing the only people who suffer are the general public. So well done @andyburnham and @JohnHealey_MP who have managed to conjure up less money for the Treasury when it needs it most 🙈🙈🙈
In budget week - @andyburnham @UKLabour @AlexBallingerMP here are just a few reasons horse racing is important. You rarely mention any of them. Might be worth just considering a few…🏇🙏 Horse racing enables all these significant positives in the UK: 🟢Treasury — our great  sport contributes  £3.5billion to the economy annually 🟢85,000 jobs 🟢Community growth, rural vitality 🟢Hundreds of years of history 🟢World exporter/global trade 🟢Top class Horse Welfare 🟢Bookmakers paying £millions to  help those with addiction 🟢Charity work, helping those who  need it most 🟢Children using racetracks for  schoolwork — fantastic for maths 🟢Second most watched sport in  the country 🟢Daily interest and participation 🟢Protects the Thoroughbred breed 🟢Terrestrial TV coverage 🟢Veterinary expertise 🟢Strengthens diplomatic ties  across the world 🟢Loved by Kings, Queens, world  leaders and celebrities 🏇🙏🙏🙏
