Helen, your £60bn is total welfare including pensions - £314.7bn to £389.4bn. Working-age health/disability is £58bn to £76.7bn (+£19bn), most of it inflation and caseload baked in before Labour. And Labour HAVE cut: UC health element (LCWRA) cut from £423.27 to £217.26 a month from April 2026 for new claimants, then frozen until 2029/30. That's £3k a year loss for 730k future claimants. That's a real cut, legislated in the Universal Credit Act 2025. You voted for the framework that allows it, then wrote a Telegraph piece saying Labour are "wishing the bill down". Which is it - do you want cuts or do you want to attack Labour for cutting? If the OBR forecast still shows a rise, it's because sickness is rising post-Covid, not because rates are generous - rates are being cut and frozen. Welfare increase is mainly down to the state pension triple lock which now contributes to 55% of total welfare spend, this is also down to an aging population. Working age welfare has remained relatively stable in real terms and as a percentage of GDP at around 10-11% for the last 40 years.

This was probably supposed to sound like a noble and compassionate statement, but then you stop a minute and realise that the only way to create a world where no one in their 20s is on benefits is to create a world in which young disabled people literally don't exist.
'I don't want to see anyone in their 20s on benefits' Andy Burnham insists he does want to cut the welfare bill, in an interview with @DanielHewittITV Watch our ITV Tonight Special, 'Burnham: Inside The First 100 Days' at 1915 on Tuesday 3rd November, ITV 1, ITVX and STV

“Half of the benefits bill we pay on pensions...” The New Statesman’s Oli Dugmore says the Government will struggle to reduce welfare spending in a “meaningful way” due to demographic change and an “increase of people passing through working age to retirement” #Newsnight

Louis Walsh "It's Genocide and we are all watching it as if nothing has happened." Being mates with Simon Cowell I had Louis down as another complete prick. But it seems I was wrong.

No railcards are handed out. As an MP, you should be capable of going to the Railcard website. Firstly like all other railcards you pay for them. Secondly the degree of proof needed for a Disabled Persons Railcard is high. Ask the Rail Delivery Group who issues all Railcard.

Just walking from Bloomsbury to New Oxford St today, at five sets of green lights for pedestrians was breached by speeding (male) cyclists. It's just a form of anonymised bullying. Time for action, @SadiqKhan ...
‘What wrong with you?’ Terrified pedestrian asks dangerous Lime bike rider skidding past her on pavement opposite St Thomas’s Hospital, London. Other pedestrians subjected to people riding bikes at speed & close passing them when they have green man to cross road. @ShabanaMahmood

They said he will need to be sedated - never required that before he’s no issues at dentist or having injection to numb or tooth extracted but now if have a disability it’s several yrs to wait for a community dentist to knock him out for a filling - ??? 🤷‍♀️👀🙄

Had to laugh though when returned to York station. Whole coach disembarks with driver calling out to reassure me I’m not forgotten. He then comes back to release the chair straps & I say you’re going to have to move the coach. He looks confused & I point at the lamppost in the way of ♿️lift. 😁

Wondering why our government chose a foreign company to handle NHS data rather than looking closer to home...
HISTORIC MOMENT Today at 14:40 Dr Mark Russell from KCL pressed the button to execute the first ever job on the new OpenSAFELY service. Until today, OpenSAFELY was COVID only. Now we are open to critical analyses that improve all patient care, on GP records, securely, at scale. PICS! THREAD!
