The "arts" in "liberal arts" is used to mean the skills are 'a learned art', rather than specifically "arts" such as music, painting, etc.

Just had a $5k home renovation project get messed up by AI. The company took the info I gave to a human & had AI summarize it for their contractors in the field. It hallucinated some details & omitted others. Contractors showed up without the right tools or info for the job. My quote that I signed had all of the correct info. The contractors showed me what was sent to them and it was completely different. Apparently the handyman company uses AI to try to streamline the info sent to their employees or something like that. This is so dumb. I wonder how many tokens they wasted just to make things harder.

New reporting reveals that the DA in the Cornell 7 case straight up lied about Jane Doe’s statement to campus police. He defended his decision not to bring charges by claiming she described all activities on the night in question as “voluntary, conscious, and consensual”.
That made no sense in the first place, because who gives a statement to police about fully a consensual encounter?
According to new reporting, she told campus police “I can say with 100% confidence I was raped” and that during the assault, she “was being hit at the same time. Physically hit very, very hard."

I heard this story once about a teacher who took a fish out of its bowl and left a classroom of children as it flopped around.. telling them that if anyone left their seat, they would be expelled. All of the children sat and watched as this fish flopped gasping for air, not wanting to get up in order to avoid getting in trouble. Finally, a girl sprang up from her seat and ran to the fish, placing it back in the bowl. Ultimately, she was the only one who refused to watch the fish die.
When the teacher returned he told the class that this was a lesson. That the fear of getting in trouble should never stop you from doing what's right. That sometimes.. you may have to oppose authority and group think, simply because it's the right thing to do.
I think of this often about Palestine and Lebanon.
