90 years ago today, Oswald Mosley and his Blackshirts attempted to march through and intimidate a predominantly Jewish area of the East End.
Men, women and children, alongside local residents, trade unionists and anti-fascist protesters, came together to defend the community in what became known as the Battle of Cable Street.
They taught us an important lesson: communities can resist fascism by joining together.
Hate and antisemitism had no place in London then, and it has no place here now.

Britain's official position is now that Israel is maintaining an unlawful occupation of Palestine. Weapons used to maintain that occupation are made in the UK at Elbit Systems. Activists who disrupted the production of those weapons are sitting in British prisons as terrorists.

It is interesting that a relatively small gaggle of thugs and meatheads in masks can largely avoid criticism and be labelled as speaking on behalf of the british people. Contrast that with response to hundreds of thousands marching peacefully against genocide.
