I'm not watching a 17-part documentary about somebody who committed a crime just because Netflix gave it dramatic piano music.

Britain killed over hundred thousand people in Kenya because they were fighting for freedom. France killed over one million Algerians because they were fighting for freedom. Belgium killed over ten million Congolese. The west has no right to call anybody a dictator.

When we talk about Black people dying for the ability to vote. We must admit Black men felt the brunt of that. Think about that before you demand they support candidates that have no agenda to address their issues.

Bruce Gilley is an apologist for colonialism who has also argued that Africa should be recolonized. With these people the argument is never to leave Black people alone to allow us to develop our own societies. It's also a justification for past abuses while trying to advocate for more interference. And just like in his argument for colonialism in Africa, Gilley ignores important history. Here he claims that Haiti was never colonized by the West, which is untrue. The idea that Toussaint was more of a slave driver than the French were ignores that Toussaint only kept the system of plantation labor to appease the French, but he modified it so that workers were actually paid. It was not slavery in the way that the French established slavery. And Jamaica looks stable in comparison to Haiti, but Jamaica is hardly a model for how successful colonialism in the Caribbean has been. The reality is that the Caribbean as a collective is still struggling because it inherited a colonial system of dependency and underdevelopment which has never been modified. We need real decolonization not more colonization. spectator.com/article/its-ti…

Prof Arday was cleared of plagiarism. The media hounded him to his death. It was not a public interest story until the media made it so. Attack on Prof Arday is grounded in deep seated anti-Blackness in the souls of those whose imaginaries of the Black man excludes certain roles.
Replying to @jgro_the
Recognition from fellow journalists is much appreciated as this is undoubtedly a difficult and polarising story, with a tragic outcome. Many people still do not accept its legitimacy but it was an important public interest story which sparked public debate about key issues of our age timeshighereducation.com/opi…

White people’s awful spatial awareness on sidewalks is one of the craziest sociological phenomena ever. Like they’re unconsciously selfish in that regard on a systemic level. Wow

It’s important to note every name in that statement is a Black man who, at some point, stopped giving Madonna access. The “channelers” did not burn from the light. They burned from carrying everyone else's greed for it while never once being allowed to set it down and rest.
Madonna explains the real reason legends like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Jean-Michel Basquiat burned out. “When you channel artistic ideas and you have creative visions, it’s magic. And when you overthink it or you start thinking about how much of that you own, you stop it. A lot of people have these meteoric careers and they rise up and take the world by storm… and then something happens and they can’t handle the light. In a way, they fly too close to the light and it burns them. I would say that’s really true about many of my peers… whether that’s Prince or Michael Jackson or Jean-Michel Basquiat. These are people who were channeling, but I don’t think they understood that there has to be some kind of restriction. People like to take drugs because they’re actually channeling light… but it’s light with no restriction. And then that’s what kills you or burns you out.”

I want this white woman to stop talking about MJ and Prince talking down on them because they died and she didn’t. You aren’t better than anybody because you didn’t struggle with addiction. You aren’t better than anybody because you didn’t walk the walk they had to as black men

Jamaica’s oldest living Olympian turned 100 years old in July. Hyacinth Walters 🇯🇲 helped pave the way for Caribbean sprinting. She emerged following World War II, representing her nation for the first time at the CAC Games in Barranquilla, where she won a bronze in the 50m and teamed up to win a silver in the 4x100m relay. At the very same competition in 1950, she swept her events and walked away with three gold medals in 50m, 100m, and 4x100m. Walters qualified for the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, much to her delight. She had missed the previous Olympics in London, largely due to the economic difficulties of the newly formed Jamaica Olympic Association. At the 1952 Olympics, she cemented her place in history by being one of only two female athletes to represent her country, and while she was unable to make it out of the qualifying rounds of the 100m and 200m, she laid down the foundation for all the athletes since. After winning a pair of silver medals at her third consecutive CAC Games in 1954, she retired from the sport and relocated to New York and later Miami following her 90th birthday. As of 2026, Hyacinth Walters remains one of the oldest living Olympians in the world.
