It was a great day for a great cause, and I’m humbled and blessed to have been a part of it 🙏 It definitely made me a lot further aware and interested in indigenous history and culture. Not to mention I learnt heaps from helping others troubleshoot their docker/kubes problems!
The @DevOpsGirls +@indigitek collab has concluded! We've been able to raise >10k AUD for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peeps, and deliver good vibes and knowledge to 60+ peeps. Love to @FrancaLovesCake @x0dium @_dedelala @CaseyLeask @_thidoo_ @niksko - among others!

The React hook - useEffect - has got me thinking about life & how we can get stuck in the infinite loop of thinking in circles, just like how a React app can get stuck in a loop of infinite state update with useEffect 😂🧵

2. When things get too messy, we might need to let go, of some or all. I was too attached to the code I've written, which has created this messy loop. After some reflections, I decided to to let go of my past attachment & re-write the component, slice by slice & it now works!

1. Sometimes we need to take a step out of this loop, be it React/Life & reconsider what we are in control of. In the React case, I had to step away, re-assess what I was doing in useEffect that was causing a state change, and asked if that was the right place to be doing that.

I used to think no one would really care that much if there’s a one cent off error, until I had to pay 1 cent extra today and somehow felt slightly ripped off 😂 Damn you JavaScript!

I added a new section to my explanation of Tracetogether for Aus. "If the central server cooperates with on-site Bluetooth tracking, your location can be easily tracked." Hope this is clear now. github.com/vteague/contactTr… Thanks to @noneuclideangrl. #auspol #covid19au #covid19aus

I wrote a blog post explaining the implications of TraceTogether's cryptographic protocol for a nontechnical reader github.com/vteague/contactTr… tl;dr. I don't believe this is the right approach for Australia. #covid19aus #covid19au #auspol

Oh hey! So I can finally talk about it. The new MYOB SME Platform is out. We worked on it. It's been a crazy, weird, fun couple of years. I like to believe that we made it to the end having done what we set out to do, with everybody whole and happy.

I can't believe @healthgovau is still saying "The dataset does not contain the personal information of patients." We have shown many of the patients' records can be easily and confidently identified from a few points of medical or childbirth info. theguardian.com/australia-ne… #auspol
