I posted the materials for my second-year PhD course, broadly on "Identification in Macroeconomics" -- basically a back-and-forth between structural models and data, both time-series and cross-sectional, with a focus on business-cycle questions.

The French situation is worse than the spread over German debt suggests, because German debt is no longer priced as risk free.
An alternative measure, the swap spread, looks even worse and is now higher than its highest daily close during the euro crisis

Fantastic paper. We also built on this framework in many projects within the Fund in shaping policy messages.
Excited to see this paper finally out in ReStud! 🎉
See the original thread about the paper by Hannes below.

Today @nberpubs there is great stuff on the solution of HANK models by @GregWKaplan @JavierBianchi7 and @a_auclert @ludwigstraub Rognlie Rigato in the session of @ChristianKWolf @JesusFerna7026 @luigi_bocola.
This is exactly one of the questions of my ERC project: how far can we push perturbation HANK?
So let me share some thoughts and a simple new method that is as fast as a linear solution, but almost as accurate as the fully nonlinear transition.

📢 New paper w/ @GregWKaplan 🧵1/10
How small is “small” for local-linear methods to deliver reliable answers in heterogeneous-agent models of fiscal stimulus?
Our answer: very small.

Straub winning is for wok in introducing heterogeneity into macroeconomic models. What have we learned? You can read it all about it here.

Indeed, a very well-deserved John Bates Clark Medal. I am a huge fan of @ludwigstraub 's work which is highly relevant to what we do here at the @IMFNews. Congratulations Ludwig!

Overjoyed that @ludwigstraub has won the Clark medal!
I met Ludwig when he was finishing grad school - we started talking about private debt, that would lead to our paper `indebted demand'. I vividly remember thinking how special Ludwig was - poetic brilliance of an applied theorist that reminded me of Krugman. He is in that league in my view
And what a true gentleman! A great joy to be with. Congrats Ludwig! couldn't be happier
