If you like PHP and have recently tried but failed to make sense of all the discourse centered around Functional Programming…
If you are a programmer with an intermediate-to-expert level of proficiency in writing PHP code and are enthused by the prospect of learning a new approach to writing code, an approach centered around making things easier to reason about…
Then you will be pleased to learn that I have recently collaborated with Apress to release a new version of the book titled “Functional Programming in PHP”. Please head over to the Apress bookstore to get yourself a copy if you stand to benefit from its distillation of paradigmatic ideas.
I would like to thank @Apress for helping me publish the new material, and I would greatly appreciate it if you, a prospective reader, engaged with it.
You can find the book here tinyurl.com/54ajymku.

South Africa in 1994 was basically set up to immediately become a first world, westernized country. It should be on par with Canada and Australia. Instead, it is a developing backwards into just another African third world nation.
South Africa is an example of how people cannot maintain what they did not build themselves and why "representation" and "DEI" are bad ideas to implement in our institutions.

So I mentioned how the Heat leaned heavily into mid post reps with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo vs Indiana
But I’d rather show you what they did

People are talking about this, so let’s review why Yost lost this debate (no disrespect to Yost).
In this clip the guest, pornographer, Erika Lust leans into the new atheist myth about Romans being sexually liberated swingers, while Yost counters with the old FT classic about Christianity being good for women’s “rights” actually.
On the facts Yost is right and Lust is wrong.
But Yost loses because she concedes the proper frame in two ways: first by arguing the question of pornography in the frame of “liberation” and second by having the debate to begin with.
To see how this works, we can doa what Erika Lust wants and imagine that we are back in Rome of the first century.
How would this conversation about pornography between the time period equivalent women proceed in that much more “liberated” culture?
Well, it wouldn’t, because believe it or not, Rome wasn’t the liberated culture that Lust thinks it was. I am not an Antiquarian scholar, but I know enough about the Roman caste system to know better.
The time period equivalent of Yost is a Patrician Lady, a Matriarch and the product of her society’s finest education and finishing.
The time period equivalent of Lust is (charitably) an actress or (uncharitably) a prostitute. But this is mincing words because the Romans of the first century saw these jobs as THE SAME kind of thing. They were INFAMES who were BELOW society.
Patrician Matriarchs do NOT engage in discussions with infames.
Why is that? Because Romans understood that the point of debate is more symbolic than rational. When men (or women here) engage in conversation publicly they are acting as symbols for their side.
The Patrician Matriach is not just a woman. She is the symbol, a banner of her family, her faith, the blood and honor of her sons and husband and father. Her image is the symbol of the city’s FUTURE made manifest.
By contrast, the actress sells her image in the marketplace for MONEY.
The prostitute has men willing to pay for honor. The Matriarch has men willing to die for her honor.
See the difference? Of course you do.
If you put these women in public popularity contest, what you are saying is: “Our societies faith and honor and future MIGHT be the same KIND of thing that can be purchased in the market cheaply”
The Romans understood this symbolism and Christians a hundred years ago understood this too, though they didn’t like to SAY it bluntly.
And it makes sense. Remember, you can’t DEBATE values. No one can prove that honor is more valuable than gold. Rather, people OBSERVE values which is why FRAME matters more than ARGUMENTS.
Patrician women don’t have to plead the case of honor for the entertainment of actresses and prostitutes. That would be like some cruel punishment than Caligula might inflict upon the wives of his enemies.
Instead of argument, sanity starts with the frame of behavior. It starts when Patrician Matriarchs see a low status woman in public and, instead of inviting them to a debate as equals, greet them the same word modern women love to apply to low status men: “ICK”

So, Spo's decided to stagger Giannis and Bam, huh? The Giannis-led unit is playing a fast-paced, read-and-react style, while the Bam-led unit is playing slower, with more screens.
The most frustrating things about the fork + exec model are the cost of spawning new child processes and the difficulties of sharing state between them. While I think the model still has purchase, affording programmers the ability to, in great discretionary detail, shape the constitutions of child processes would go a long way towards improving it.
There is no doubt in my mind that Jonas Urbig is the successor to Manuel Neuer. Buddy's conceding the kind of goals that lesser sides tend to score against Bayern—sublime long-range strikes.

People seem to believe that if you find something interesting, it must be new or unfamiliar to you.
The idea of continually being interested in things even after long periods of exposure seems foreign to them.

Studying intelligence is off-limits due to nonsense moral restrictions.
Some people actually do not want us to understand the world because it would make them upset.
This is an incredibly unfortunate missed opportunity from @23andMeResearch. I can't think of a single good reason why "ethics restrictions" should prevent researchers from analyzing cognitive traits.

Many Western nations managed to "uplift farmers and the working class" without killing upwards of 30 million of them.
We did this, generally, without empowering student mobs to trash all the history we now claim we're proud of, and without massacring the wealthy and the educated on the altar of cultural revolution.
One of the many ironies of the modern Chinese nationalist is that, were it not for generals countermanding the Red Guard, the evidence they claim for their greatness would have been totally destroyed by Mao's own faction.
We have no equivalent of Mao's campaign against the Four Olds, having largely gotten over iconoclastic religious hysteria in medieval times.
We never went around killing sparrows to avert famine (which caused a surge in locusts that made famine worse) — of all our many retarded leaders, none have been so retarded as that.
Our war heroes did not hide in mountains waiting for the Kuomintang to do all their fighting for them, only to emerge and claim credit after the fact. The Communists are not war heroes. They drove the war heroes out of the country they fought to save.
We have managed to make modern nations of citizens, not subjects; and our technological prowess today is the product of invention, not theft.
We have empowered our ethnic and religious minorities, almost to a fault, while the Chinese government locks them up in camps that we consider horrors.
As is usually the case, Communist doctrines of "colonialism" and "imperialism" - the latter a Leninist propaganda trick designed to save Marxism from all its failed predictions - are spread today to spare Communism the shame of its own deeds.
And we are able (and even encouraged) to criticise our most important leaders and heroes, while the Communist Party apparatchik must debase his own intellect before he is allowed to speak.
China does have a rich and wonderful history. Mao created none of it, and destroyed much of it. The fat ass of his legacy squats on what remains.
To us Chinese, Mao Zedong is our hero.
Mao uplifted farmers and the working class in China, united the Chinese people, led us to defeat foreign invaders, and founded an independent country so we could all live with dignity.
Mao supported the heroic struggle of the African people against imperialism and colonialism.
He was one of the greatest leaders in world history, and one of the most demonized by the West.
