I've said this before: the majority of people who use AI (and I'm not talking about programmers or people who actually have to constantly run agentic tasks at desk or other truly token-hungry stuff like that, but just the typical person using ChatGPT as a replacement for Google) could simply download an open-source model, run it locally on their home PC, and get a perfectly acceptable result. Altman is mortally afraid of the average AI user figuring that out.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says it’s “quite terrible” that people have so much DRAM sitting in their own PCs instead of being used in data centers. “Everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer. And be used 5% of the time,” He argues that cloud data centers should make better use of limited memory supplies instead of people running AI models locally.

commercial licensing can be easily as costly as having a custom font made and with custom, brands are able to purchase an asset that has not just mechanical utility in their brand ecosystem, but brand polish: "we're so cool we made our own font" - everyone wins.

One of the biggest opportunities when it comes to Onchain FX is the ability to disrupt pre-funding by using DeFi liquidity pools. A lot of other players have built request for quote (RFQ) systems or central limit order books, these are fine but at some point, demand for USD outstrips the local currency and the systems will stall. ViFi fixes this by paying LPs in USD for emerging market pairs. For the first time, LPs don’t have to take exposure in Pesos or Lira. We unlock deeper liquidity by making sure LPs get paid, it’s just that simple. Testnet is out, mainnet before the end of the year!
You can move a billion dollars onchain in seconds. You still can't move a million dollars into naira, pesos or shillings the same way. ViFi is onchain FX built on Uniswap v4 hooks. Our testnet is live today on Base Sepolia and Arc Testnet. Try it: app.vifilabs.xyz

we are at a real interesting time in tech where more and more of us will collectively contribute to solving product problems by making our own (bad) apps for public consumption and, as this compounds on itself, true nirvana: everyone making the software they need for their work.

Because truly, software can be "bad" if it only works for your use case and you try to make it universal, but who will need universal software? Soon the things that matter will be at the kernel layer, and it will be hardware's turn again.
