Terrifyingly it's well over a decade since the wonderful @swkplay Parade revival. But here's a little throwback to it that I recorded recently. Still one of my favourite jobs of my whole career... instagram.com/reel/C_fpPuJgs…

This is definitely true. You only need to look at the outcry about the winter fuel allowance to realise our image of pensioners is completely divorced from reality.
I think a lot of people's conception of what "being old" means has frozen in about 1990. Hence this weird idea that pensioners fought in the war, when in 2026, only a tiny number of them have. Similarly, people hear "old lady" and picture blue rinse and a tartan shopping trolley.

You do start to think that Social Media has basically sent us mad. Political discourse in so many of the various online bubbles is now so divorced from reality that being popular in government is basically impossible.

I was reading about the myth of Prometheus today when the phrase "new liver, same eagles" popped into my mind, so I'm keeping that in mind for the next time someone asks me how it's going.

One starts to get to the point of thinking that social media and stable democracy are simply incompatible. And this is the real post-2008 story, since the dates of slow economic growth and social media are in fact the same. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

People are afraid to point out the bad arguments in their own tribe, because they rightly fear it will be interpreted by their fellows as treachery. So tribes typically have no quality control over their beliefs, except that provided by their enemies—without whom they go insane.

If you and Donald Trump are in an enclosed space and you somehow reach the conclusion that he is the most well-read person in the room, the two of you are characters in a riddle where you are a cat.

I’m really pro-Palestine, but y’all are making it really hard to not think you’re the bad guys
In hindsight, Schindler's List was incredibly effective PRO-genocide propaganda. It let White people feel like the good guys (there were good Nazis too!) and ended in occupied Palestine (as if their genocide was the natural conclusion).

Imagine going back to the 90's and telling them progressives in the 2020's view schindlers list as being right wing. They'd look at you as if you had three heads.

Everyone loves Hillary Clinton when she's not selfishly trying to deny a man his glorious destiny.

Everyone loves Hillary right up until she tries to run for office, then mysteriously they don’t like her and I’m sure it has nothing to do with the deep roots of misogyny that absolutely infect our entire society.
Hillary Clinton is such an incredible force. These clips of her testimony are just the latest reminder. She was punished by society for being too smart and too competent. And we’ve had a decade of devastating consequences because of that.

A lot of the people in this skit probably denounced or hated when Trump mocked a disabled journalist but they are acting in the same cruel way he did.

This is how Tourette's can impact the people who live with it. I'm sure demanding that they issue relentless apologies for their tics would be a massive help, right?
