Great to join colleagues at the Australia-UAE Parliamentary Friendship Group Reception in Canberra, hosted by UAE Ambassador Dr @altaffaq.
The UAE has faced sustained Iranian missile and drone attacks on its cities and infrastructure, and Australia has stood with our friends, providing support to help the UAE and the thousands of Australians who live there. We are grateful for the care and support the UAE has shown Australians throughout the conflict.
Our partnership is also growing economically. Two-way trade reached $12.7 billion last year and the Australia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has just marked its first anniversary, opening new markets for Australian businesses and supporting local jobs. 🇦🇺🇦🇪

I've spent much of my life in and around the @UN. What stays with me most is its people: colleagues who, in the world's hardest places, deliver food and medicine, protect civilians and help parties take the first steps towards peace.
The UN was never meant to agree with the world. It was built to help the world agree. This UN Day, I remain confident in what the United Nations can achieve - and in the future we can build when it acts early, supports its personnel, and measures success by what changes on the ground. #UNDay

Australia and the United Arab Emirates share a longstanding relationship built on friendship, trust and strong connections.
It was a pleasure to say a few words at the parliamentary event hosted by the Australia UAE Business Council, marking one year of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
As Co-Chair of the 🇦🇺-🇦🇪 Parliamentary Country Group with my good friend Senator Andrew McLachlan, it's always encouraging to discuss ways to strengthen our Strategic Partnership and build on last year's $12.7 billion in two-way trade.

During a visit to Captain Smit Machchhar… the flydubai pilot who embodied the highest degrees of courage, responsibility, and care for human life.
From us, and from the leadership of the nation, he has our full appreciation and praise.
We are proud that he is part of our team… part of the story of our nation… and part of what the UAE stands for… a nation of compassion… a nation of peace… and a nation of life.
I was pleased to attend the signing ceremony in Perth on Wednesday for UAE-headquartered Titan Lithium’s proposed A$333 million acquisition of Global Lithium Resources—a significant investment that underscores the deepening economic partnership between the UAE and Australia.
The proposed transaction builds on the momentum of the UAE–Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Investment Memorandum of Understanding on Investment Cooperation in the Minerals Sector, signed in 2024, translating our shared ambitions in critical minerals into tangible investment and stronger commercial ties.
The proposed acquisition remains subject to shareholder, court and regulatory approvals in Australia.

Today I met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister @ABZayed. One year on from elevating our relationship to a Strategic Partnership, we discussed our mutual friendship, recent developments in the Middle East and our shared desire to see the Strait of Hormuz kept open.

The UAE is building the government of the future, one intelligent step after another. Phase two of our Agentic AI journey is officially underway - turning tech into real speed, efficiency, and human-first service.
Today, during the meeting of the Ministerial Council for Artificial Intelligence and Development, we reviewed the second phase of the "Agentic AI Project", which marks a new step in our journey of developing the Government of the Future. Our target is clear: to transform the capabilities of artificial intelligence into tangible impact on government efficiency, quality of services, and speed of execution. Each new phase brings us closer to a more flexible government system, one that keeps pace with the changes of our time, designs its services around people's needs and harnesses technology in their service.
I had the pleasure of attending the AIIA ACT Annual Dinner, featuring Former Australian Prime Minister, Former Foreign Minister, and Former Australian Ambassador to the US, the Hon. Dr Kevin Rudd AC, who currently serves as President and CEO of the Asia Society.
Always wonderful to catch up with Kevin and share a friendly conversation.
Sincere thanks to Dr Claude Rakisits and the AIIA ACT Branch Council for hosting such an outstanding event.

🇦🇺🇦🇪 Always a pleasure to catch-up with my friend @Dralnoaimi, Chair of the UAE Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee. His insight into regional and global developments is invaluable.
I truly value how far our Strategic Partnership has come. As Chair of the Australia-UAE Parliamentary Country Group, I was pleased to discuss greater economic, security and people-to-people cooperation.
The UAE is Australia's largest trade and investment partner in the Middle East and the recent Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement is opening real opportunities. Looking forward to building on this together.

A father is an influential role model and a vital pillar of his family’s happiness and stability. On Father’s Day, we remember our Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, as the epitome of fatherhood who built a nation through wisdom, compassion and dedication. We salute every father who follows in his footsteps, nurturing his family with love, instilling noble values in his children, and opening doors of hope and opportunity so our families remain a source of strength and progress for our society and nation.
