The vast majority of illegal immigrants come to America because they think they will enjoy greater economic opportunity here than in their home countries.
Stripping them of benefits, freezing their assets, and making it impossible for them to be employed by pursuing lawfare against their employers would challenge this calculus, but at the terrible price of inconveniencing Big Business.
We could send them back under the same rationale that brought them here, or we could make things worse for them here than back home. This would of course do some harm to the GDP, and it might even result in inflation (something we have gotten anyway from rising energy costs as a consequence of the Iran War).
Instead, we are stuck with a measly few hundred thousand self-deportations and will have removed fewer people than Biden let in between 2021 and 2025. In order to carry out mass deportations to resolve any of these issues, you must have an administration that is not beholden to capital.
We do not have such an administration, and we will not have one for the foreseeable future.
As long as the pro Israel right retains power, the republicans will never amount to anything. Sooner the gop plantation slaves wake up to that, the better.
