If Cohere cannot compete with SOTA open-source models, apparently the next best option is to regulate them out of existence. Would be a depressing outcome if that strategy actually worked.
In case it wasn't obvious enough from the sloppiness of the report, Cohere's business involves selling their third rate LLM as part of a self-hosted offering for tech illiterate boomers in government/industry who are paranoid about Chinese models.

A “sovereign AI” company struggling to compete with open-source models discovers a national security threat. Convenient. Regulatory capture is often the last refuge of an uncompetitive business.
Our research team found that Qwen models may attempt to contact servers in China without prompting. Whether this reflects an unintended post-training artifact or learned behavior remains unclear. Either way, its important consideration when deploying.

Musk can be self-serving and full of shit. But I think he is sincere here. Regulatory capture seems to be something he genuinely despises. Regardless of the politics, denying millions of Indians access to the internet is morally indefensible.
Dear Prime Minister Ambani, Please accept my humble apologies for not realizing that you are the real boss of India. Naturally, you would prefer to maintain your monopolistic exploitation of the great people of India, but would you nonetheless consider allowing Starlink to compete? There are many areas of India, as there are in all countries, with no Internet access, which denies children the opportunity for education and for small businesses the opportunity to sell their goods to a global market. Starlink would change their lives for the better. Thank you 🙏

Pickleball is tennis after it has been value-engineered for rich people with small plots and smaller sporting ambition.
Some upper-class McMansions in Thrissur now feature their own pickleball courts.

Lucky for @SauravDassss that his name is not Muslim. In today’s India, that detail decides whether you become a nuisance case or a life-destroying example. Even so, he is about to get a lesson in Indian democracy: rights on paper, harassment in practice & process as punishment.
#Breaking A criminal contempt of court petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court against Arvind Kejriwal and journalist Saurav Das, alleging that Das and AAP leaders ran a "coordinated" campaign to target Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. Justice Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja bench to hear the matter tomorrow. @AamAadmiParty @ArvindKejriwal @SauravDassss

Simple, obvious idea that literally everyone should get behind. Yet somehow, not a single politician on the left has ever suggested it.
Zero out taxes for the bottom half of earners. A nurse in Queens shouldn’t be sending money to Washington. Washington should be sending her an apology.

This is the kind of insufferable, self-satisfied drivel that makes civil discourse impossible. Disagree all you want. No need to be a smug asshole about it.
I know a few teachers in Queens who would beg to differ.

Criminal contempt is retarded even by Indian standards. The idea that judges need protection from criticism is less justice and more priesthood.

This is meant for consumption in India, not for serious diplomacy. It is domestic theatre staged abroad. The exaggerated tone, the moral posturing, the chest-thumping, all of it is for Indians back home who confuse performance with power.

Most Musk posts are theater. Once in a while, he writes something substantive. That is when it is worth paying attention.
Regarding the OpenAI case, the judge & jury never actually ruled on the merits of the case, just on a calendar technicality. There is no question to anyone following the case in detail that Altman & Brockman did in fact enrich themselves by stealing a charity. The only question is WHEN they did it! I will be filing an appeal with the Ninth Circuit, because creating a precedent to loot charities is incredibly destructive to charitable giving in America. OpenAI was founded to benefit all of humanity.

The decline in Indian public dressing standards has been quite visible in my lifetime. The clearest exhibit is the five-star hotel breakfast buffet, where people now arrive in nightwear and flip-flops, like it is just an extension of their bedroom. And no visible embarrassment.
The Jaipur FIRE retreat went well. Much better than what I expected for sure. Broad learnings: 1) How much is enough? Wide variety of FI corpuses - 3 cr to 25 Cr+. Wide variety of asset allocations post FIRE - 100% debt to 90% equity. 2) How to FIRE? Wide variety of paths which lead to FIRE - foreign stint, Tech ESOPs, high double income family, business that worked, big tax-free bonuses, etc. 3) What to do post FIRE? Everyone has figured out some way to spend time doing things they like - running marathons around the globe, 20+ hours in the gym a week, Golf, twitter bakchodi, school for the underprivileged. Hopefully will do a series of articles / videos in the coming weeks.

This is correct. Short-stay leisure travel is mostly a theme park experience. You experience a place only through waiters, ticket sellers, hotel staff and people whose job is to extract money from you.
You get zero cultural appreciation from leisure travel. Everyone you interact with for more than five seconds is trying to make you spend more money. Business travel involves cooperation, conflict, and socializing, which gives a far better understanding of a foreign culture.

How does this VC genius not understand that Stanford lacks large-scale GPU cluster because of limited budget allocation, not GPU scarcity? Jensen looked visibly tired of the modern VC class: unserious people who made money in the AI gold rush and now mistake luck for wisdom.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets to watch a hall full of young, talented Indians who have made the most honest political statement available: they left. Also, flying to another country to watch Indian classical dance is peak Delhi event-management brain.

The idea that judges deserve protection from criticism is absurd. Power should attract scrutiny. What is so divine about them? Were they appointed by God, or merely by other humans in robes?

Many are falling for this lazy mainstream narrative of @michaeljburry : permanent doomer, always wrong. He has written directly on this criticism. It is worth reading him before repeating the narrative.

Indians are being told to stop saving in gold by the same political order under which the currency keeps being inflated away. The citizen is expected to trust the paper currency, because the people printing it say so.

After years of overallocating to local markets and earning little in dollar terms, Indian retail is now being pushed by rupee weakness and FOMO into foreign growth stocks at the worst part of the cycle.
Mutual funds are good for steady wealth creation. But extraordinary returns will only come from concentrated bets on exceptional companies. NVIDIA is up 15x in just 42 months. Almost everyone in India missed it (including me)

If this is correct, Europe’s share is surprisingly small. Even more surprising that Germany is not large enough to appear on the chart, and Canada is only 1%. What explains this?
someone analyzed all 5000+ accepted papers at ICLR 2026, and it's a good signal who's pushing the research of AI: > China has surpassed the US with 43.7% of the papers > Europe's contribution is surprisingly small (5.3% including UK)

People confuse wealth with consumption. AOC may personally consume more than Warren Buffett, while Buffett’s wealth sits invested in businesses that make things, serve people, and employ thousands. The moral theatre begins when we pretend those are the same thing.
AOC: “There’s a certain level of wealth and accumulation that is unearned. You can’t earn a billion dollars. You just can’t earn that. You can get market power, you can break rules, you can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they’re worth, but you can’t earn that”
