The law must apply equally to everyone, regardless of position or privilege.
A judicial officer’s position cannot, in itself, become a ground for protection from arrest. Any relief must be assessed on established legal principles and the facts of the case, not the status of the accused.
Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act makes this case particularly significant, as it addresses the liability of vehicle owners and guardians when a juvenile commits a motor vehicle offence, subject to statutory exceptions. That liability must be examined on its merits, without assumptions or special consideration.
Due process is non-negotiable, but it must operate equally for everyone. The accused is entitled to a fair hearing, and the victim’s family deserves a fair and impartial investigation.
The credibility of the justice system rests on the principle that no position places anyone above the law.

This is the kind of intervention that can genuinely save lives. Ambulances at every NH toll plaza, backed by a 10-minute response objective, can make a crucial difference when every second counts.
A welcome step towards building a safer, faster and more responsive road transport ecosystem.

Punjab has issued 41.38 lakh challans in just seven months, more than twice the entire tally for 2025.
But the bigger story is what happens after a challan is issued. Automated enforcement can generate a notice instantly; resolution still depends on verification, payment and, where required, dispute resolution.
I’m glad to see Challanwala’s insights featured in The Tribune’s analysis of Punjab’s enforcement surge.
If a challan is valid, pay it. If you believe it is incorrect, verify it and use the available remedy rather than leaving it pending. Digital tools can make that journey simpler for motorists and transporters.
This is where Challanwala comes in helping bridge the gap between detection, resolution and compliance.

Punjab issued 41.38 lakh challans in just 7 months.
That’s more than 2x the 20.47 lakh challans issued in all of 2025 and nearly 767x the 53,973 challans issued in 2021.
But here’s the twist: Punjab’s average collection per challan fell from ₹1,370 in 2024 to just ₹118 in 2026.
More enforcement.
But is it translating into compliance?
41.38 lakh is a big number. Hope your vehicle isn’t contributing to it...
