💯 This from the Mechanic.
Bitcoiners: stop suggesting that we try something like BIP-110 again only this time with even more %%%... This is completely unhelpful. It's just cope and failure to accept what has been clearly demonstrated. I get it, this fucking sucks. I'm with you. But where I'm not with you, is in REPEATING the same mistakes we've already made.
The only way a failure remains a failure is when you fail to learn from it.
How long did it take to get 15-20% of the network running Knots? About a year and a half? How many more years do you think we have, all the while, the chain being spammed into oblivion, Saylor, Fink, and others buying all the influencers and making backroom deals with the miners? Paper bitcoin filling the marketplace, the culture deciding that bitcoin is whatever-the-code-lets-us-do from script kiddies and 15-year old hackers who never learned anything about economics and don't care. There's no guarantee we'd ever get a critical mass, it would take us years just to find out, and then we'd fail AGAIN because it doesn't MATTER. The %%% of Knots usage is IRRELEVANT.
If you think we can BIP again on the captured chain, you have completely failed to understand what just happened. BIP-110 did NOT fail because of the numbers. If failed because the mining pools 51% attacked the network and went their own way. NO amount of nodes can prevent this. It is a hash problem. Yes, nodes are needed to relay and validate the blocks, but mining pools and a few corporations can run what they need for this. They don't need many if almost the entire bitcoin economy supports it (Coinbase, Blackrock, Strategy, a few others maybe) and anyone who thinks bitcoin = Nakamoto consensus will fall in line. Most of the world doesn't care about centralization of the network. We literally just saw that play out. Daily, there are idiots on X, from influencers, to suitcoiners, to perennial Core supporters arguing vehemently that everything is fine.
The CORE/CAPTURE chain is DONE. I know this hurts. I feel it too. But do what you need to do to accept it, and then get back to work on what actually has a chance: the hard fork.

I am still sorting through all my thoughts.
So far I'm leaning on keeping most of my wealth in Bithereum. Because best of brand shitcoins tend to do well in the short to medium term, even though they all eventually trend toward zero.
I will also support Bitcoin's POW change by remaining engaged, not selling the fork, running a full node and hopefully do a little mining. Because I find the integrity associated with the BIP110 movement incredibly compelling.
Nevertheless, I reserve every right to both work on fighting to reforge Bithereum back to what Satoshi created and wanted, while also remaining supportive and interested in seeing where the hardfork takes us.
I can walk and chew gum.

The revealed flaw in Bitcoin's design is...
Miners have choice.
Miners can choose to reject transactions, and they can choose to reject versions of the reference client. This flaw alone gives them total control over the network, forever.

Bitcoin was dealt a serious blow on 8/8 2026. It hurts because we know what was at stake, and what this means. It hurts because most of our enemies are too stupid and ignorant to understand they're rooting against themselves. It hurts because the suits don't care about bitcoin, and never did, and now we know this without a doubt. It hurts because the influencer class betrayed us, and bitcoin. And they were not as smart as we thought. Or they thought.
Sip the whiskey, fire the joint, hit the heavy bag. But then get back here and look at what happened with clear head and eyes. We only fail when we fail to learn from our mistakes.
For what it's worth, here's what I think about the current state of bitcoin:
- Bitcoin is a captured project and we were too late in reacting. We don't know the precise structure of the capture, but it's clear that Core, Strategy (Saylor), Bailey, most of the big mining pools, and a number of other key figures are part of it.
- Miners were almost certainly coached through this via backchannels. All the people wanting to "bet" in prediction markets knew something we didn't.
- Many influencers showed their true colors, possibly also backchanneled, especially ones changing their tune suddenly, without good reason, and without any willingness or ability to engage in debate over the actual principles.
- None of the arguments made by Core proponents and BIP-110 opponents made any sense and still don't. Some of it is stupidity. Some of it tribalism. Some of it is by anti-bitcoiners. But there is a weight in the space that we can't see, except by its gravitational influence. It has warped a great many minds around it. We don't need to know what it is to know it exists.
- The main chain is unsalvageable. Let the suits and scammers and spammers have it. It will turn into etherium and become irrelevant. Not tonight, but eventually. We are early. We are few.
- We are not so few. 20% of the network went all in. It grew from 0% on the principles and merits despite overwhelming opposition from nearly every imaginable corner and entity. That's how we know it got where it did on merit. This wasn't David vs Goliath. This was David vs a legion of Goliaths. And yet, we nearly won. Perhaps if we'd had more time. Perhaps if just a few influences hadn't turned their backs on us. Maybe if Saylor hadn't been quite so evil. We'll never know how close we came.
- I would rather start fresh on a clean coin with the 20% of you who went all in on this than remain with the 80% on the cucked coin. One of you is worth a 100 of them. I believe if we did this, we would eventually outgrow them, the same way we grew support for BIP-110: on the strength of the principles and merits.
The mission hasn't changed. We still need to fix the money. Satoshi almost one-shot this whole thing from nothing. But the one thing he didn't foresee was the corruption of the developers.
We know this can work. We almost got there. I have taken the orange pill and I can't go back inside the fiat matrix now. Let's regroup and figure this out while there's still so many of us riled up. Sulk today, but sober up tomorrow, and lets get back to work.

BIP-110 activates in a couple of hours.
I'm proud of every node runner and bitcoiner who chose the hard path of defending Bitcoin’s actual mission, instead of folding to the narratives and ridicule pushed by Big Bitcoin, suits and the influencer class.

#Bitcoin has the potential to be one of the greatest inventions in the history of humanity. The protocol offers a chance for humanity to pull itself out of the clutches of state controlled money and all the depravity that has entailed.
Many attempts have been made to change Bitcoin from a decentralized, secure, and permissionless monetary network over the years.
Corporate attempts to increase the block size were proposed at the expense of decentralized node operation. Certain miners choosing to screen transactions based on government mandates have directly attacked the permissionlessness of Bitcoin.
Developers' accommodations for new use cases have come at the expense of Bitcoin's security and moneyness.
Today is the culmination of one fight to keep Bitcoin as money and not allow its purpose to be distorted into a data storage protocol. This is one battle in a war that will rage as long as Bitcoin continues to exist.
We are all stewards of the Bitcoin protocol. We all have our roles in maintaining the system for ourselves and our posterity.
I believe in the promise of Bitcoin. I believe in the future it offers to my children: a future of honest accounting and monetary sovereignty.
When I consider which consensus rules best serve Bitcoin's function as money, I come to the conclusion that #BIP110 offers a better set of rules than those currently in place. It more effectively keeps Bitcoin a decentralized, secure, and permissionless monetary network.
Regardless of what miners choose to do today regarding BIP110, my conviction does not change. I will continue to run my node, enforce the rules I believe best preserve Bitcoin as money, and advocate for the Bitcoin I want to leave to my children.

Today is the day that Bitcoin could see its first fork in 9 years.
12 months ago, I honestly thought Bitcoin had won.
I was wrong.
Whether BIP 110 is successful or not, here is where I stand.
1 - Bitcoin is money.
2 - JPEGS, NFTS and ordinals are stupid.
They always have been.
3 - Running a Bitcoin node is critical.
We literally fought the block size wars for this very reason!
Bcash failed because it centralized Bitcoin by making it tougher to run a node, and we FOUGHT back against this bad idea.
But today, when Bitcoiners are fighting back against bad ideas that makes it more difficult to run a node, it's being labelled "censorship?"
You can use mental gymnastics all you like, discussing the differences between relay policy, and consensus rules, but from first principles...
Bitcoin is money.
Bitcoin is only decentralized if we have a growing co-hort of node runners,
From first principles, we must defend node runners.
Another under appreciated measure of decentralization is the developers.
From first principles, we need a decentralized network of developers, who actually understand Bitcoin.
That's not me, I'm not technical, but I can tell you one thing.
Bitcoin developers should hold Bitcoin, and actually understand what they are working on.
This is the separation of money and state.
We need developers who understand this gravity of this battle, not engaging in "Feelings Friday" sessions.
4 - The taproot softfork was sold to us to make LN & multi-sigs more private, and helping node runners, by reducing data usage on-chain.
Instead we got ordinals, inscriptions and scammers on Bitcoin.
This was a failed upgrade. I was wrong to support this "upgrade."
So was every "expert" who sold it as a good idea.
5 - There is a world where BIP110 fails, but a better solution is implemented later on in Bitcoin, that does effectively squash spam.
Bitcoin monetary maximalists could lose todays battle, but win the war.
This soft fork has sparked a healthy debate in the space.
Bitcoin now has ≈20% of node runners choosing to run Knots.
And there is finally a lot more critical thought happening in the space.
We're questioning the background, and the incentives surrounding the people closest to Bitcoin.
The developers, the miners, and the node runners.
6 - More thoughts on the "censorship" strawman.
Imagine in the year 2028, we go through another softfork to make Bitcoin quantum resistant, or something.
Imagine if we unintentionally introduce an attack vector for a bad actor to exploit that soft fork, to weaken Bitcoins decentralization and function as money.
Imagine they do it in a way that "follows consensus rules."
Is it "censorship" to fight back against that attacker.
It's called identifying a problem, and fixing a problem.
It's spineless to bend the knee and enable a bad actor to actively hurt Bitcoin.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is a duck.
7 - Overall thoughts
This is all good for Bitcoin.
I am a monetary maximalist, and the idea that Bitcoin is money something we need to protect.
Bitcoin is a revolution.
We need to stay vigilant against all forms of attacks.
We are very obviously in the "now they fight you stage."
Tornado cash
Samourai Wallet.
Coldcard
LN attacks
BTC Pay server
The acceleration of these implicit attacks on Bitcoin is a sign that they are threatened.
I feel like this view will be hated by people on both sides of the debate, but that's ok.
If Bitcoin somehow uses the inscriptions and Ordinals exploit to become more decentralized, and separate money from state, this tweet will show I was very clearly wrong.

✅ The top two mining pools control nearly half
✅ The top ten control 95%
✅ 20% of nodes enforce BIP-110 and the rest support it
✅ There are zero non-supporting nodes
Today we find out whether Bitcoin is decentralized.

Current perspective -
They tried to crudely wrestle control of Bitcoin away from the sovereigns with the "hard forks" in 2017.
They realized that it just doesn't work. So instead this time around there's a Fabian style infestation of the space and it has become captured rather than overtly conquered.
It's very hard to defend against this because the attacks are all small enough to make any concrete pushback appear to be an overreaction.
Anyone who can extrapolate forward can see that anything that undermines Bitcoin's identity as a monetary protocol, if not rejected decisively, results in eventual death.
It's not here to compliment the dollar, it's here to replace and destroy it. Cope to the tune of "trojan horses" is now and always was self deception.
Protocol capture is real and the norm for freedom tech that reaches levels Bitcoin has.
People continue to underestimate the threat Bitcoin poses to the system and refuse to understand the lengths to which that system will go in neutering it.
I'll have more to say over the coming days as we establish whether the industry still respects the decentralization necessary to maintain our disruptive potential or if it chooses to close ranks and become a servant of the fiat apparatus currently coopting the network.

Hashpower and exchange liquidity look like absolute power in Bitcoin — until dedicated full nodes lay down an uncompromising UASF rail.
Here’s the game theory behind how user nodes actually rule the network: 🧵
1/4
When nodes set a non-negotiable deadline (8/7~8), they alter the payoff matrix entirely. It’s not just a soft fork proposal; it’s a ticking time bomb thrown directly at miners and exchanges.
2/4
For miners, it triggers a brutal Prisoner's Dilemma.
If a rival pool flips to the new rail first and gains hash dominance, any miner stuck on the legacy chain faces catastrophic re-orgs. Mined blocks get wiped overnight — turning electricity bills into pure loss.
3/4
For exchanges, staying on the legacy chain becomes a financial death trap.
A sudden re-org means double spend attacks and instant insolvency. To protect their own balance sheets, exchanges are forced to freeze legacy deposits and demand miner compliance.
4/4
Nodes don't need hashpower or billions in capital.
By establishing an immovable, hard-coded boundary, user nodes force both miners and exchanges to align for their own survival.
PoW executes, but the Node governs. We will see it soon.

What happened with Coldcard is beyond devastating.
In a 25 minute window, attackers drained over $38M from about 500 single sig wallets, some dormant for years. Users had no way to know until it was too late.
A few lessons here.
Don’t put all your eggs in one wallet, one device, one vendor. Multisig and passphrases meaningfully reduced exposure to this specific flaw.
I’m still a proponent of self custody, but it’s not for everyone. It demands a level of operational rigor most people, understandably, don’t have the time or interest to maintain.
We can’t let this become another excuse to fracture. Bitcoiners need to come together, share information, and help each other through it, not retreat to “told you so.”

Consensus does not mean we all agree on some change. That's a fantasy.
Consensus is when a passionate minority commit to making a change, and no one commits to stopping them.
This is a feature, not a bug.
If Bitcoin stops working this way, it will die.
AuthintegXBT retweeted
With only 1734 blocks (~12 days) left until mandatory signaling, it has become clear that BIP-110 has consensus. There are no reasonable objections, and support is increasing every day. Our opponents' arguments continue to devolve as they scrape the bottom of the barrel.

My actions are those of a person who assumes the companies responsible for most of the blocks getting added to the chain at present will flip version bit 4 in accordance with BIP-110 on, or prior to, Aug 8th.
I find this the most likely scenario for three reasons:
1. The number of people I have personally verified to be indicating enforcement of the incoming rules
2. The character and conviction of those people (both of which are entirely absent from any supposed "opposition")
3. The historical record demonstrating the success of a minority-driven UASF in Bitcoin with fewer numbers and more convicted opposition than BIP-110
-----
I believe those who do not operate as if the above were not at least likely are simply posturing and/or in denial.
