Ben is the longest tenured employee at Stack Overflow and he joined because of unicorns. It was his first developer job and he loved it. Then one he realized he might be an asshole to work with. New @corecursive episode is out and its Ben's story. Starting from coding side projects to working on one of the highest traffic web sites out there. And ending with a reflections on personal character and the perils of engineering driven orgs that frankly I needed to hear.

I think about this tweet a lot. Usually while trying to find a typo in some YAML.

Years ago I had a boss who used to text our team product ideas while he was on the toilet. Every time we saw him leave to use the bathroom we would want for a barrage of "shitty ideas." Anyway, hope the product team at twitter is doing OK.

Mourning the loss of a colleague as an entirely remote team is rough. We weren't ready for such a thing. His wife had to create a support ticket to let us know. This one was tough to write: sofuckingagile.com/blog/mour… #prodmgmt #webdev #SoftwareEngineer

My mates and I are having the STUPIDEST debate... And I am here for it. Do you think there are more doors or wheels in the world?

Ever wondered, ‘why is my kid drawing a box to solve a multiplication problem?!?’ It tells you why. It’s your traditional algorithm made visual. So when they get to the algorithm you learned, it makes SO MUCH more sense and reduces common mistakes.

Every dev with an over-engineered side project and a .com or .io TLD and a dozen features nobody asked for, upon hearing NYT paid 1 mil+ for a dude's simple but beautiful implementation of Mastermind that he didn't even host on a TLD but instead as a sub folder on his blog:

I was asked to post an announcement for the upcoming hackathon in the @virtual_wonder engineering Slack channel. I may have *slightly* overengineered the announcement. This is what I posted: youtube.com/watch?v=kSrhPjcu…
