Russia-Africa Summit 2026 :
President Putin paid tribute to Thomas Sankara during his speech today in Moscow, by saying:
I would like to recall the words of the great son of the Burkinabe people, Chairman of the Revolutionary Council and first President of Burkina Faso, Thomas Sankara. He said: "Debt is neo-colonialism, in which colonizers transformed themselves into “technical assistants”. Under its current form, that is imperialism-controlled, debt is a cleverly managed re-conquest of Africa, aiming at subjugating its growth and development through foreign rules."
He added: these words were spoken not so long ago, though not yesterday either – back in 1987. Unfortunately, little has changed since then.
Thank you president Putin, for saying it the way it is.

True sovereignty also means having its own currency

Russia says 85% of its commercial deals with Africa are now in rubles. "National currencies protect our ties from outside influence," Putin said at the Russia–Africa summit.
Russia has military and military-technical agreements with 45 African countries. It also trains African soldiers and police.
Meanwhile: 18 million tons of grain to Africa in 2025, 13 million more in the first nine months of 2026. Fertilizer shipments over 2.2 million tons.
Putin's pitch: Russia and Africa are "natural allies" in building a multipolar world — with more African representation at the UN Security Council and global financial institutions.
Since 2023, Russia opened 8 new embassies in Africa. Total: 48.
The abduction, abuse, and enslavement of Africans by Europeans for nearly five centuries dramatically altered the global landscape and created a legacy of suffering and bigotry that can still be seen today.
