I'm told that tomorrow is the last day of movies at Cinema 1,2,3 on the East Side. This used to be Manhattan's most prestigious cinema and a place where I spent a lot of my youth. Why was it not landmarked?

It's always felt funny to claim to be a huge Peter Medak fan: he made a handful of great films, all of which are staggeringly different from each other. The consistency was expert craftsmanship and a unique weirdness that stuck with you long after. #RIP
