I am grateful to all of you who are trying to keep Europe and the United States together.
There are so many people with good hearts in America who sincerely want evil to lose and Ukraine to stand strong. These are the very hearts that helped Europe defend its freedom, and that fought on D-Day, won the Cold War, and want what is best for Europe. Hearts that want to be allies, not to divide or humiliate Europe. I believe most Americans still feel this way. And at the end of the day, the American people will have their say.
Putin will listen to America if America really turns up the heat on him and makes one thing clear – either he chooses peace, or he gets no more money for his war.

My Lord.
@JoeBiden, 83 years old, battling Stage 4 cancer that has spread to his bones, stood for HOURS alongside @DrBiden as the names of 9/11 victims were read.
Donald Trump fell asleep at the 9/11 event at the Pentagon.
One showed respect despite his pain. The other couldn't even stay awake.
Trump is an embarrassment to the nation and the office he holds.
Really says it all.

Kobe Bryant once said:
“Everyone wants to be a beast. Everyone wants to be the best. But very few people are willing to do what it actually takes. Because what it takes is boring. It is waking up at 4:00 AM. It is shooting the same shot a thousand times. It is watching the film when you are tired. People fall in love with the result, but they hate the process. You have to fall in love with the boredom. You have to fall in love with the repetition.
If you can find joy in the mundane work that no one else sees, the lights will eventually shine on you.”

The true enemy of our nation is the people who want to keep us in a perpetual state of rage -- and the social media platforms they use to keep us constantly angry.

Really good article, and I don’t know which is upstream of the other (or maybe it’s a feedback loop?) but there’s a version of this mindset very prevalent in the art and literary worlds right now that is similarly impacting the work being produced

The point of declaring words violence was always to be able to use violence against words.

I was born in 1961 and by the time I was 7 JFK, Malcolm X, RFK and MLK had all been shot dead. There was a sense the country was teetering into some terrible new place, but the decade passed and cooler heads prevailed, and as Seamus Heaney said, "Hope must always be preserved."

In the last few years we've seen:
- The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer
- The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC
- The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi
- Multiple assassination attempts against Trump
- The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife
- Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson
- The assassination of Charlie Kirk
Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system. It should terrify us all.
The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.

What happened to Charlie Kirk is unconscionable, but it was literally a few months ago that two Democratic state legislators were gunned down by a right wing activist. Let’s not pretend this is one-sided

On social media, being moderate is the counterculture.
Extreme views are heavily over-represented on social media
Social platforms’ tendency to reward hostile content creates incentives that systematically reward simplistic messages and extreme positions ft.com/content/9251504e-c60e… via @jburnmurdoch
