While not having Saskatchewan in Western Final will eliminate several thousand Rider Prides, EE ticket sales with a week to go are strong enough to open upper deck sales this morning.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, 33, to play 1,037th game to tie Kevin Lowe Oiler record today in NY. Has 204 goals and 811 points. With 156 more goals, 389 more assists and a Stanley Cup I think he gets in Hockey Hall of Fame.
So it’ll be QB Nathan Rourke and ex-EE K Sean Whyte, finally winners over Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Western Final, 33-26 winners. Leos headed for the first playoff game in Commonwealth Stadium since 2015. Winner to the Grey Cup in Calgary.
EDM open NY tripleheader 4-0 vs NYI. Now 6-0 on road. Nuge 2 goals on eve of equaling most games as Oilers. Seven pts in 5 games back from injury. Jarry back-to-back SO. McDavid extends NHL start of season assists record. Rangers Sunday. Everybody happy?
Coming up on game time EDM @ NYI. After going 9-2-2 despite injuries and weak bottom six, to me this represents the beginning of Phase 2 of Oilers season. Seven games in 12 days. Thirteen games in next 23 days.
Hope Oilers create space with Foster Hewitt and Elmer Ferguson Award winners Rod Phillips, Jim Matheson and myself in Oilers Hall of Fame room in Rogers Place.
Excellent story this morning on NHL.com by Derek Van Diest today on Chris Cuthbert entering Hockey Hall of Fame as winner of Foster Hewitt Award. He worked at CBC Edmonton during Oilers five Stanley Cup run. Did weekly radio gig together.

Check out the long range forecast this morning for next Saturday and the first home playoff game and first Western Final in Commonwealth Stadium since 2015. The forecast is for plus eight degrees at game time with zero percent precipitation. Not bad.
Pacific Division No. 2 and No. 3 Vegas and Seattle both lose big tonight. That basically means that 9-2-2 Edmonton could lose all three in New York and still top the division.
Oilers heading to New York for afternoon game vs Islanders Saturday, night games Sunday in Madison Square Garden and Tuesday in New Jersey. And they’re head into a rare three-way Battle of NY. Isles 7-4-2. Rangers 7-6-1 and Devils 8-5-0. Who do you like to beat 5-0 on road EDM?
Whale of a scoring race going on to start the season in NHL.
• Kaprizov 24
• Draisaitl 24
• Mathew’s 23
• MacKinnon 22
• Bouchard 22
What’s that? Look up? Look way up? Oh yeah.
• McDavid 36.
The 9-2-2 Oilers (I had them to be 10-2-1 hit the road with a 5-0 away record. Three in NY. Home for four. Then six away including Toronto, Tampa, Florida and Stanley Cup champion Carolina. No easy sledding ahead. Put me down for 9-3-1 for this run.

Eight of nine teams in the playoffs is the “goodbye” moment for me. I’ve been following the CFL since I was eight. It’s been a slice.
Good solid team won at both ends of ice for Oilers. Team defence. Jarry with 4-0 shutout in goal. Four different goal scorers. None named McDavid or Draisaitl. No. 97 sets NHL record for consecutive games with an assist from the start of the season Edmonton 9-2-2.
Change for the sake of change. No Awards ceremony at Grey Cup. Next year no 55 yard line. Total revamp of playoffs. Etc, etc.
🚨 NHL HISTORY
Connor McDavid has BROKEN the NHL record for the longest season-opening assist streak!
