#ScreenshotSaturday New release of Open Sosaria!
v0.6.0 is out now with audio across the whole game.
Check it out on itch and give it a ⭐ on GitHub:

Github: github.com/delcodigo/open-so…
Right now the focus is on bugfixing and making sure the game is fully playable from start to end. Thinking of turning that gameplay into a YouTube series too!

AI may well be able to write massive software projects “from scratch”, but that almost certainly isn’t the fastest / highest performance / highest security / most token efficient way to do things. Good building blocks matter.
In addition to RL’ing the agents on final task loss, we should try to get them to regularize the building blocks as well. What would the standard library look like that makes the agents most effective?
It is likely at the limit that it turns out to be some alien organization of code, but given the existing human-bias in training, I bet that in the near term it would be lovely code that old programmers would appreciate.
I suspect the same could be said for mathematics, but that is out of my lane.

Inspired by the old isometric screenshots of "Ultima 9," @camiloDelCodigo is attempting to build a complete version of Britannia in that style.

Ultima VII Revisited contributor @gabefx made some new 3D models for musical instruments in Ultima VII and decided to make a little video showing them off!
More world blocking today. I’m still learning how to approach maps at this scale, how to fill all that space with meaningful terrain, landmarks and routes without turning it into noise.
I’m also trying to come up with a more consistent workflow for building the world so I’m not reinventing the process for every region.

Replying to @APiasecki77
We've already implemented a lot of quality of life improvements, including sortable inventories, more readable fonts for conversations, and alternative combat modes. We're currently working towards release 0.4.0 and you can see the full roadmap here:

A brief fly through Britannia, as seen in #Ultima IX: Ascension.
#screeshotsaturday Ultima IX: Quest of the Nudist
There’s something deeply unsettling about the Avatar running around Britannia in nothing but boots and gloves while casually carrying a sword.

@slashie_ This one goes to you my friend
#TurnBasedThursday If you’re still craving more Ultima, a couple of months ago I made Open Sosaria, an engine reimplementation of the original Ultima for the Apple II (1981).
Play it on itch: camilo-delcodigo.itch.io/ope…
Star it on GitHub: github.com/delcodigo/open-so…

Ultima IX: Hoarder Edition
Inventory interactions are starting to come together: objects can now be picked up from the world, dragged around inside the inventory, dropped back into the world, and rotated before placement.
So now you can carry half of Britannia in your pockets. Just be careful where you put those tiny keys.

A bit more work on my recreation of the 1995-97 Ultima IX prototype. I’ve moved the assets into Godot and now have the player walking and running with keyboard and mouse controls, plus camera rotation around the vertical axis.
