Getting rid of an old phone, laptop or tablet? Don't forget that it may still contain personal information, saved passwords, photos, financial records and private messages. Simply deleting files or uninstalling apps may not permanently remove your data.
Imagine this: You donate your old smartphone after deleting a few photos and apps. However, you haven't properly erased the device. The next owner could potentially access information you thought was gone.
Quick tip: Back up anything you want to keep, sign out of your accounts, remove SIM cards and removable storage, and follow the manufacturer's recommended secure erase or factory reset process. For work devices, always follow your organisation's approved disposal procedures.
