What a comeback for Lula! Fascinating turnaround as 3 million more Brazilians come out to vote for him, encouraged by social media influencers and his WhatsApp army. Not a great night for Trump whose favoured candidates here and in serbia both lost

Afghan women have been raising this at international conferences for months but no one seems to be listening
A handful of Taliban officials now work in Berlin and Bonn to facilitate deportations from Germany to Afghanistan. France is considering doing the same in Paris, and other European countries are showing interest.
This cooperation follows months of quiet engagement and a controversial meeting in Brussels in June, where over 20 EU delegates failed to question the Taliban even once on human rights.
German officials describe the engagement as effective recognition of the Taliban as the legitimate government.

So delighted Navi Pillay has been recognised with Nobel Peace Prize. Among many things she was key in the first ever prosecution of rape as a war crime in 1998 - for what happened in Rwanda. We need more judges like her - and more women judges
Newly awarded peace laureate Navi Pillay has held states and national leaders accountable and brought hope to victims of violence and conflict.
Navi Pillay is one of the great defenders of international legal principles in our time. Her distinguished career reminds us of the need to support, fortify and expand the global rule of law. Navi Pillay’s commitment to justice and human dignity is a source of hope and inspiration to all who seek to bring about a more peaceful world.

Did the English nuns who wove the Bayeux Tapestry now on stunning display at @britishmuseum stitch a secret message that we are still ignoring almost 1000 years on?

This is a disgrace.
Now my Aunts Dr. Uzma and Noureen, along with my cousins Shershah and Shahrez have now been abducted as well.
They have broken into my aunties and cousins houses and forced them
into vehicles with no explanation.
No reasons for arrest have been stated.
No news has been released as to where they have been taken.
This is criminal behaviour. Inexcusable. The Pakistani people are petrified of their own leaders.
No upstanding nation should tolerate this criminal establishment. Intervention is now imperative.
The world MUST take action.
Punjab Police have arrested both sisters of Imran Khan, along with their children and the sons of Aleema Khan Sahiba. They have been placed in an armoured vehicle and are being taken to an unknown location. Shame on the Government of Punjab and Punjab Police. This action is illegal and is strongly condemned.
Thrilled to be shortlisted for Foreign Correspondent of the Year and in great company after another busy year in world news. Thanks to @EditorsUK - sometimes it’s hard feeling your words don’t make a difference - so this is very nice

Conflict-related sexual violence doesn’t end when the guns fall silent. In 2025, the UN verified some 10,000 cases, nearly double the previous year, but the true toll is far greater. Trauma, stigma, and silence ripple across families and generations. No child should inherit these wounds.
No child should inherit the consequences of a crime they never chose. No survivor should carry this burden alone.
We should all feel shame for this
Today marks exactly 5 years since schools were closed for Afghan girls. A generation of girls have missed their entire secondary education. #Afghanistan remains the only country blocking half its population from high school and beyond. This is having a huge impact not only on girls, including on their mental health, but on the present and future of the country. It is not only unacceptable; it is outrageous and possibly a crime against humanity. Open the doors with a comprehensive curriculum. Normalizing a regime that systematically persecutes women & girls is unacceptable. We must stand with Afghan girls.
