🙏 A Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty overnight, and a Canton PD officer injured. Our hearts are with the fallen deputy’s family and fellow officers, and we pray for the recovery of the injured officer. This tragedy marks CLEAT’s 99th critical incident response, with Staff Attorney Ben Casey responding to the scene to provide legal assistance and support to our members. We honor the fallen deputy’s service, courage, and ultimate sacrifice. May that sacrifice never be forgotten. 💙 wfaa.com/video/news/local/va…

CLEAT mourns the loss of our member, Fort Worth Police Officer Brian Gentry, who passed away today following a medical emergency while on duty. Officer Gentry dedicated more than 22 years to serving his community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and fellow officers at the Fort Worth Police Department. Rest in peace, Officer Gentry. 🖤💙🖤
Message from Chief Eddie Garcia: It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Officer Brian Gentry #3403. On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, while on-duty, Brian experienced a medical emergency and went to a local hospital emergency room. He was abruptly admitted to the ICU and passed away hours later on October 21, 2026. Brian has been with the department since 2004 and assigned to the Fugitive Unit as a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force Officer. The loss of a member of our department is deeply personal. Brian was one of our own, and his passing will be felt by the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him and calling him a friend. Our thoughts are with Brian’s family, loved ones, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time. As a department, we will come together to support one another and, most importantly, to support his family as they navigate this unimaginable loss. Please keep Brian’s family and the Fort Worth Police Department family close in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be shared at a later date. Chief Eddie Garcia

"We had a local regional CLEAT attorney on scene. They assisted the officers almost immediately," said CLEAT Executive Director Robert Leonard. "I believe the investigation will show they were justified in defending themselves, but as tragic as this is for everyone, they acted within the law and departmental policies." kfdm.com/news/local/shooting…

Welcome to CLEAT! 🎉 Hadley Gable has joined CLEAT Legal as a Staff Attorney in the Dallas Office. Hadley brings a commitment to hard work, integrity, and discipline shaped by years of athletic and scholastic achievement. As an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Mississippi, she became the inaugural Director of the Children’s Justice Division and served as legal representative to the only Mississippi agency committed to the welfare of vulnerable children statewide. She and those under her leadership were the first line of defense against neglect and abuse. Furthermore, Hadley and her team also criminally prosecuted individuals who failed to pay child support. Hadley previously served in multiple roles for the Mississippi Department of Human Services, including Inspector General, Senior Attorney, and Chief of Staff for the Deputy Executive Director. As Inspector General, she oversaw the Programmatic Quality Control, SNAP Quality Control, Administrative Hearings, Investigations, Claims and Benefit Recovery Unit, and Internal Audit divisions. Upon completion of her Juris Doctorate degree at Mississippi College School of Law in 2011, Hadley worked in private legal practice for four years until joining MDHS in 2017. Hadley was selected to the 2020 Class of MEC’s Leadership Mississippi. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Mississippi State University, where she was a four-year letter recipient for the Mississippi Soccer Team. Please join us in welcoming Hadley to CLEAT!

Thank you, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, for joining us in San Antonio for CLEAT’s 50th Annual Convention and for your continued support of Texas law enforcement. Lt. Gov. Patrick delivered a powerful and engaging address to CLEAT members from across the state who gathered with us for this milestone celebration. His remarks were thoroughly enjoyed by convention attendees and included a fitting recitation of “The Ballad of the Alamo,” just steps from the historic Alamo itself. We appreciate Lt. Gov. Patrick taking the time to be part of this special occasion and helping us celebrate 50 years of CLEAT!

CLEAT fights for Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office! Field Representative Pete Faraone went before Lubbock County Commissioners Court to address the consequences of uncompetitive pay at the Sheriff’s Office, including employee turnover, morale, and the continued challenge of retaining experienced officers and detention staff. He also called for transparency surrounding the county’s taxpayer-funded compensation study and urged county leaders to take meaningful action instead of continuing to push the issue down the road. CLEAT will continue fighting for the men and women who serve Lubbock County and making sure their concerns are heard where decisions are made. We also want to thank County Judge Parrish and Commissioner Dalby for their support of an across-the-board pay increase for Lubbock County employees. That support matters, and we appreciate their willingness to recognize the need to invest in the people who keep Lubbock County running.

A big win in San Angelo. 👏 The San Angelo City Council voted 7-0 yesterday to ratify a new one-year Meet and Confer agreement with the San Angelo Police Officers Coalition. The agreement includes pay increases to bring salaries to more comparable benchmarks, a new process for out-of-state lateral peace officers, a physical fitness incentive, and a budget for cardiac testing related to presumptive coverage. SAPOC President and longtime CLEAT member Blue Flores credited CLEAT and Jeff Lake for helping the association navigate a particularly challenging negotiation. “This year especially could not have been done without CLEAT or Jeff,” he said. “Jeff was prepared for it all and his ability to advocate and tenaciously defend our position was a major benefit.” Congratulations to SAPOC on getting this agreement across the finish line and continuing to move the profession forward for San Angelo officers. 💪
