It’s easy to hate the farmers
But do you have the courage to hate the consumers?

Always cool to be published by your state’s largest newspaper.
Thanks @bendoody for allowing me to correct the record on John McCollister’s false claims.
Get out and vote for Republicans like Jim Pillen in Nebraska on or before Nov. 3.

😂😂 this is a great representation of the issues in Nebraska…they don’t even know the major US highways in the state
High school football playoffs in Nebraska….the only time of year folks east of 281 realize how far it is to “out here”
IMO salvage value of the cow is what matters to grow the herd….a ranch needs significantly more income from culls than what was common for most of the last decade…Aug imports announcement knocked the cull cow market back $500+/hd does real damage that a feeder rally doesn’t fix

“They operated under the assumption simply giving their customers a better experience would pay off in the long run. Incremental cost be damned.”
Take notes if you run a business
I was leading Heinz Ketchup when Dip N Squeeze came out.
It was a massive upgrade from ketchup packets. Consumers LOVED it.
Problem was we couldn’t get any of the big fast-food players on board.
Dip N Squeeze was 3-5x (I forget the exact numbers) more expensive than packets, and they were free for customers.
The key question was “does having Dip N Squeeze drive more volume?”, thus justifying the incremental cost.
It was nearly impossible to prove. Every penny matters to these operators, so every sales meeting was the same. “We love it, but no.”
Chick Fil A was the only yes.
They didn’t need “proof”. They operated under the assumption simply giving their customers a better experience would pay off in the long run. Incremental cost be damned.
Their conviction was impressive.
They viewed every decision thru the lens of their customer. A much different approach from the other big players.
I assume they treated countless other decisions the same way.
This was ~15 years ago. CFA has been on quite the run since.
(separate but related, I believe being a private co is a massive competitive advantage for CFA)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Dan Reese claims he "was leading Heinz Ketchup when Dip N Squeeze came out" ~2011, but has described himself as an MBA intern at Heinz then. Reports show Chick-fil-A and Dairy Queen used the packets early on, with others testing.

Harvest relief for America’s farmers.
Today, @POTUS and @SecRollins announced the Harvest Fuel Relief Program — making $8 BILLION available for one-time payments to farmers facing higher costs and market disruptions.
Here’s what that means:
➡️ Payments to help cover a portion of estimated losses for the 2026 crop year.
➡️ Payment amounts based on planted acres, production costs, crop yields, and prices.
➡️ Row crop payment rates announced in November, with details for other eligible commodities to follow.
➡️ Application will be available online using a Login.gov account that is connected to USDA.

Reindustrialists and founders are missing the states best equipped to help them because local and state governments aren’t equipped to sell themselves….Cheap land, center of the country for logistics, and the human capital needed.
I really wonder what you people eat, we don’t eat bacon every day but come in between 75-88lbs per person per year
Few surprises….but pretty good ranking
**States Where Men Still Build Things.** All 50 states are ranked on five real 2024 measures: men working in the trades, hunting licenses, self-employment, prime-age men with jobs, and men working government jobs, where fewer is better. Wyoming comes out on top, followed by South Dakota and Nebraska. Virginia, New York and Maryland are the bottom three.
