I make games and I’m getting ready to announce my next one.
Follow along on my YouTube channel for updates, and to wishlist it on Steam once the page goes live.
Oh no! Developers will have to ship a polished game!
Big publishers are making life harder for indie developers using Early Access.
Denis Dyack, CEO of Apocalypse Studios, says games like Subnautica 2 and Path of Exile are changing what players expect from Early Access.
When big games launch in a polished state, players start expecting the same quality from smaller studios with less money and fewer people.
“AAA publishers are abusing Early Access,” Dyack says.
His advice to developers is to “Treat Early Access like a real launch, because players do.”
Based on what I’ve seen and what other devs report, 10 reviews is the gate to surviving Valve’s Thanos snap.
After that, it’s about people buying and actually playing the game. Wishlists help, but from what I’ve heard, they work more like an email list at this point.

But before the release, don’t you still need to gather wishlists to ensure some initial sales and provide the algorithm with some data? Just to avoid losing the release boost.
I seen this coming. It’s like Disney when they told OpenAI to stop generating images.
It doesn’t stop cloning since you can still design the game to be a copycat by “your designs”, but it does make it a noob filter now.
ANTHROPIC IS CRACKING DOWN ON VIDEO GAME REWRITES 🚨
Claude Code picked up a new rule around Oct 27, sent from Anthropic’s servers under a flag called "tengu_heron_brook". There’s no setting to turn it off.
The full rule: “Do build original games, games in a genre, and games from the user’s own designs and assets. Don’t build a recreation of a specific existing game, even if it is renamed or called original.”
Is this the end of game rewrites, modding and everything in between?
Get the build approved before release date.
Hey @Steamworks, My build review took 6 business days to get denied because I forgot to uncheck the Steam Cloud Beta option (which gets turned on by itself). I fixed this and resubmitted within the hour. It has now been over 9 business days and I have missed my release date. Help
Steam is now turning into Youtube for games.
This helps both AAA and indie devs, which means, make good games and Valve will show your game to millions.
No marketing budget required.
Because Vavle's monopoly is earned from making the best service for consumers.
Not through coercion like the monopolies everyone hates.

As G+ found out years ago you can’t just be 10% better. You have to be 100% better.
I think most people forget gamers used to hate Steam for years too. It wasn’t until publishers started the launcher wars that I think consumer sentiment really changed.
Right now this looks more like a pond of shit than real water.
I am probably going have to redesign a different feedback loop for it to get more realistic water.
I am honestly surprised it hasn't been fixed.
It's not like people want Steam to be a monopoly.
I am seriously thinking of trying to vibe code a launcher as @kiaran_ritchie floated the idea of to see if it is just AI tools not working well or pure apathy for their product.

I'm honestly irked at the attempt to shame gamers into making different choices instead of just improving his product
Wow, the first time this dude actually told the truth on something.
Peter Molyneux says the games industry is basically pretending it doesn’t use AI.
“We, as the industry, are pretending we’re not using AI,” he said, arguing that it’s now “almost impossible to code” without AI assistance.
He claims devs can often avoid Steam’s AI disclosure by simply not ticking the AI box, despite using AI tools for coding.
Molyneux also believes AI could become one of the biggest creative advances for studios once the industry moves beyond low-quality “AI slop.”

I have a hard time getting worked up by Steam’s 30% cut when various countries take up to 25% in VAT while proving no value at all.
"The current black/white situation is unsustainable".
Some of the rare cases I agree with a Redditor on Steam's AI disclosure.
Ads in games are a punishment straight from hell.
EA accidentally showed a MAGA political ad in SimCity BuildIt.
A player who returned to the game after years away was surprised to see an ad telling people to vote.
EA says political ads are not allowed in its games and that the ad was shown by a third-party advertising company by mistake. EA says it has now been removed.
Players have also complained about other questionable ads appearing in SimCity BuildIt, including ads for THC products earlier this year.
