6/6 Conference-based gov matches today’s reality, varying state laws, schools with different economics. Trying to re-centralize power at the NCAA level will only create more litigation. Conference governance operating independently is the clearest path to stability

The NCAA no longer provides meaningful legal cover. Power conferences are the primary targets in antitrust litigation. Staying inside the NCAA structure creates shared liability without shared benefits. Leaving lets the Big Ten/SEC control their own legal risk

Under current system, 1 problematic school/state can create national headaches. Conf-based gov creates accountability. if a conference’s rules are bad, the schools in that conference feel the consequences directly. This is healthier than placing blame across the entire NCAA.

An athlete at one school can face completely different eligibility standards, NIL restrictions, or roster rules than a peer at another school in the same conference. This patchwork doesn’t protect athletes, it creates confusion, legal battles

Conference-based governance allows rules that fit the athletes in that league. Power conference athletes could have clearer revenue-sharing frameworks, stronger academic and mental health support systems, and more predictable eligibility standards.

Competitive integrity suffers when rules are enforced inconsistently or overridden by courts and state governments. When a single school can use legal action or political pressure to keep an ineligible player on the field, it hurts every other athlete and team trying to compete fairly.

The Big Ten and SEC should leave the NCAA entirely. Remaining under the NCAA forces them to operate under outdated structures that slow down athlete-friendly reforms and weaken enforcement. In DC we went from reform rules to P2 being targeted. DC is not helpful.
