You may remember that before Christmas I let you know about an emergency decision I made to save the Red Handfish. I wanted to give you an update about how it’s going. The Red Handfish is critically endangered. There are just 50 - 100 left in the wild. So, based on expert advice, we removed 25 fish and housed them at breeding facilities in Tasmania during the expected summer marine heatwaves. All are doing well. We’re hoping to return them back to their home before winter.

Can't think of a better way to celebrate Medicare's 40th birthday than at one of our new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics. This clinic on the NSW Central Coast is already helping thousands of locals see a doctor for free.

Trouble offshore for @WoodsideEnergy and Saipem installing the Scarborough gas pipeline. Two serious safety incidents in a month, with one last night rupturing the pipeline, leading to a union call for immediate action from regulator @nopsema. watoday.com.au/national/west…

Proud of this.
At the #SecularismAustralia Conference in December, event MC @JaneCaro spoke about the importance of secularism in guarding against the threat of theocracy, a threat she noted was increasingly real in the United States. Watch the conference online: secularism.au #auspol

Yep. Elite private schools in Perth pocketed millions per school for a few weeks. Public schools didn’t.
Biggest spend Morrisons Jobkeeper It was. Only no checks and balances. Harvey Norman alone got 42 million. The big end of town made a killing. New Zealand had a similar system. The difference theirs was monitored. If business was up the money was returned. Simple math. LNP FAIL

It fascinates me that wealthy people are turning their homes electric with solar, batteries and EV’s. Free transport and home energy. These same people voted against climate action in Australia. Voted out a carbon tax that would have delivered cheaper electricity to everyone.

These same people will vote for Dutton who supports nuclear energy for Australia. The most expensive energy there is to put into a grid. So people in rental properties or on low incomes would have to pay for the most expensive power while rich people pay for none 🤪

A political story that applies everywhere. Going with decisions you don’t agree with because it serves you, not society. Where do people draw the line? This is happening right now with fossil fuel company political support vs action on climate change.
Former Speaker Paul Ryan: "Trump's not a conservative. He’s an authoritarian narcissist. So I think they basically called him out for that. He’s a populist, authoritarian narcissist...Adam and Liz stepped out of the flow and called it out and, you know, paid for it. Paid for it with their careers... There has to be some line, some principle that is so important to you that you’re just not going to cross so that when you’re brushing your teeth in the morning, look yourself in the mirror. You like what you see. I think @AdamKinzinger and @Liz_Cheney are brushing their teeth, liking what they see. And I think a lot of people in Congress are good friends of mine who would take the vote back if they could, because I think a lot of these members of Congress, on the second impeachment, they thought Trump was dead. They thought after January 6th, he wasn’t going to have a comeback. He was dead, so they figured ‘I’m not going to take this heat, vote against this impeachment, because he’s gone anyway.’ But what’s happened is he’s been resurrected..."

Students are now consumers. Kids are paying more for an Arts Degree, than students going to elite private schools with all the trimmings. And most kids don’t have anywhere near that kind of money. Learning to think and analyse and process information shouldn’t be a luxury good.

The West Australian newspaper - do they accept climate science and evidence based climate change action? I read it and my conclusion is still no $$$

You may not have seen this fish before, but I wanted to let you know about an emergency decision I’ve made to save it from extinction. The red handfish lives in Tasmania’s Derwent River. There are only about 50-100 of them left in the wild. Experts have warned that the handfish may not survive this summer’s expected marine heatwaves. To give them a better chance, I’ve approved an emergency intervention under environment law to move the 25 to breeding facilities in Tasmania.
