Israel and the United Kingdom have reached an understanding on the closure of the British Consulate in East Jerusalem, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said. The consulate concluded its operations Thursday, and the Consul General along with 20 diplomats are ending their assignments and leaving Israel. Israel agreed to let London keep a seven member task force in the building, which the British government owns, with a significantly reduced scope of activity. Both governments will continue dialogue.

One of the acutely minor consequences of 1,200 people, mostly Israelis, mostly Jews, being murdered by Hamas on 7 October 2023 was finding out who celebrated, equivocated, or who were silent but magically regained their ability to comment on this brutal conflict a few weeks later

Not a single rocket has been fired from Gaza into Israel in a year. The last was fired on October 7, 2025.
It is worth dwelling on how remarkable that is.
For decades, Israelis were expected to accept rocket fire as a fact of life. Sirens. Children pulled from their beds. Families running to shelters. An intolerable threat gradually came to be treated as normal.
It wasn’t normal.
Israel’s military presence in Gaza has made it far harder for Hamas to reconstitute its forces and restored a measure of quiet that Israelis living near Gaza had almost forgotten was possible.
