Jersey is a long way from Mississippi, but this new ad is worth watching. Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith is locked in an unexpectedly close race for re-election to the U.S. Senate against a Democrat.

My perennial no-cost Democratic strategist advice is that shutting the fuck up is free.
An undervalued skill of great communicators is knowing when to stop talking.

In 2024, Tom Kean only had to overcome a Democratic advantage of approximately 5,000 votes (D+22K in VBMs and R+17K in IPEV). It was enough to give him a 23K final margin of victory. The *current* Democratic advantage is more than five times that amount.

In New Jersey's 7th congressional district Democrats are at 90% of their 2025 advance and Republicans are merely at 59%

Scooplet: the clean energy-focused group Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC is making GOP Rep. Jeff Van Drew a last-minute target. Van Drew’s #NJ02 was Trump +12.5, but several outside groups are treating the race as competitive in its final weeks. politico.com/storyline/live/…

There is something incredibly interesting happening right now in Democratic politics and it’s how men connect masculinity to fatherhood. It cuts through our politics’ harshness and the idea that masculinity is all bulging biceps. I wrote about that here: washingtonpost.com/politics/…

Obama’s oratory skill level is undoubtedly off the charts, but his projected character sure has gotten low brow. Remember 2004 Obama who aimed high & unified? He has shrunk over 22 years to a really slick sarcastic lounge lizard act. It’s sad. Put downs are his whole shtick now.

You hear the word “accountability” all the time in sports. When it’s demanded by a manager, it often leads to a big payoff. Remember a game between the Mets and Brewers at Citi Field in late August? Cooper Pratt, two months into his major league career was pulled from the game by Pat Murphy because, having failed to execute a sacrifice bunt earlier in the game, Pratt did not run hard out of the box on a pop up near the right field line that fell between three Mets fielders. Pratt should have been at second base, but his lack of hustle forced him to hold on at first. Murphy would not tolerate that mistake, especially from a rookie. Well, look at Pratt and the Brewers now. That’s how you establish a winning culture, whether running hard out of the batter’s box is someone’s “cup of tea” or not.

I do enjoy how Rs have to go along with Trump's branding. In 2018 it was stuff like calling Joe Donnelly "Sleepin' Joe," which didn't make much sense but was good for ads. Now it's "check out the dump truck on this thicc senator," which is maybe less useful.
Husted: "The president is coming in tomorrow again to Ohio. Don't worry, I was in the weight room this morning working out. I don't want to let him down."

BREAKING: Obama very good at this
OBAMA: The president wasn't even mad. About The Saddam Hussein comparison. That part didn't bother him. But he was very upset about The Cheesecake Factory. He took great umbrage. He said I didn't understand the work of the artisans in the White House. They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke.

We talk a lot about how Vivek’s ad doomed his campaign. But politics aside, his campaign retraumatized a whole family. That is going to be his mark on politics. And JD Vance defended it
Amy Acton's stepfather's surviving biological daughter spoke to The Daily Mail when they knocked on her door in Ohio, while sobbing. She said: She believed Amy's story, because her father raped her sister more than once (the victim in this 1974 indictment); she remembered Amy lived in a tent with Donna and Cledith; it's been terrible for her family to see Vivek's ad run in Ohio; and she heard rumors her father had victimized even more young girls.

This ad from @VivekGRamaswamy will go down in history as one of the most disgraceful ever aired, and that will be the only reason anyone ever remembers Vivek at all
