Get in loser, we’re making hardware fun again

Personally I don’t see what’s so awful about putting nav at the top / bottom of the screen

Unfortunately the current solution is probably optimal given the current camera placement. I wouldn’t expect this to change in a software update. They really should have put the camera in the center, closer to the top edge of the screen
Replying to @Nikolozi @dankuntz
It won’t because of the camera placement. If they placed the hardware ie camera at the middle center then yeah, so basically Duo 1.0 is kind of locked into this now

iPhone Duo and Liquid Glass have the same sort of ideological flavor. It sounds good in theory. You can justify it by cherrypicking true sounding insights about “usability” But then you actually use it, and the lived reality just unpleasant. Leftism for software design

Huawei, a Chinese company universally criticized for copying Apple, beat them to the punch on foldables and executed better on software in basically every way.
Replying to @dankuntz
we enter the new age of “the chinese version is better” get ready to see that in a lot of products categories

This is the definition of “sounds good in theory” You think it makes sense. It’s the same vertical scrollable area! You’ll sound really smart saying that in a meeting. And then you use it, and it just makes you sad.

At the rate that Apple keeps adding margins and dead space, in 3 years we’ll have same usable screen real estate on the Duo inner display as the current iPhone 18 Pro outer display

The crazy multi instance agent harness setups are basically Factorio except way more expensive, less fun, and more psychologically harmful because you think you’re actually making progress on something real and important

Sorry I really just do not buy that software designers are doing some mysterious subjective creative act that can only be fully grasped by humans. The work is incredibly predictable 95% of the time

My main takeaway from this comment section is that designers actually have zero clue how or why LLMs even work
What is the explanation for why models still cannot one-shot truly top notch UI design?

For everyone reaching for a “creativity is subjective” type explanation - is the current state of things a fundamental limit? Why or why not? Did you think that a year ago?

Is there an email app that doesn’t suck? They nuked iOS Gmail in the latest update. Do I have to do this myself?

Recently I created a management system for our 3PL’s order management system (OMS). We call this our OMSMS. But who will manage the OMSMS? That’s where our order management system management system manager (OMSMSM) comes in

Crazy it’s even a worthwhile topic of discussion for something like this to be efficient. There were ways to do this efficiently in 2003. In 10 years we’ll still be utterly captivated by the idea of rendering a few fonts and images without using half your total system resources
Hello, I made Apple Music in GPUI. This is quite fast and memory efficient.
