This morning, I saw breaking news that the polls had opened.
They have really lowered the bar for what is considered breaking news.
Now I’m watching to see the headline that says
breaking news: polls close at 6:00!

Andy Serkis' most underrated performance is definitely his portrayal of the titular demon uncle in Focus On the Family Radio Theatre's adaptation of The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Everyone should listen to it if you haven't

USA. A seafood restaurant called Red Lobster.
I had not yet opened the menu when a waitress named Brenda placed a cloth-lined basket between us and issued a battlefield order.
"Eat 'em while they're hot, sugar."
Inside the cloth slept four golden mounds brushed with melted butter and herbs. They are called Cheddar Bay Biscuits.
I took one bite.
I must speak the truth, even if my ancestors cover their ears.
In Japan, poets have spent eight hundred years writing verses about cherry blossoms falling in the spring wind.
If a sixteenth-century poet in Kyoto had tasted one Cheddar Bay Biscuit four minutes out of the oven, every scroll in the imperial palace would be about garlic powder and sharp cheddar.
I ate three in complete silence.
Then I understood the terrifying genius of the restaurant's strategy.
They send their strongest general onto the field before you have even read the menu, so that by the time the shrimp arrives, your belt is unbuckled and your spirit is already conquered.
When Brenda returned with a notepad to take our order, I looked down at the empty cloth napkin in shame.
"Forgive me," I confessed. "We have destroyed the garrison before the meal has even begun."
Brenda did not even look down.
"Baby, that's basket one," she said, clicking her pen. "I don't even start counting till basket four."
Basket four. This nation does not ration joy. It measures you by how many baskets you survive.
By the end of the evening, I was a defeated man.
I paid the check and stood up to leave.
Brenda intercepted me by the lobster tank. She was holding a large brown paper bag folded twice at the top. It was warm through the paper.
"Here," she said, pressing it into my hands. "Put these in the oven at three hundred degrees tomorrow morning for five minutes."
I looked at my receipt. "I did not pay for these."
"You looked like you had a heavy week when you walked in here, hon," Brenda said gently. "Nobody should wake up to a cold kitchen on a Sunday."
Inside the bag were eight fresh biscuits wrapped in silver foil.
A warrior can defend himself against a blade.
He has zero defense against a woman named Brenda armed with aluminum foil and a warm bag.
I’m releasing my first book tomorrow. What!? Yep. I wrote daily bible readings for a church for about 7 years, and now I’m compiling them together into books based on theme, book, etc. Here is the first. It’s 35 readings on Worship.

As a man named Dan from Indiana, I can validate this is all true. Stud-approved.
On a Saturday morning in suburban Indiana, I assisted my neighbor Dan in hanging a flat-screen television.
Before touching a single screw, Dan picked up a yellow cordless drill from his workbench.
He pointed the barrel toward the ceiling and pulled the trigger twice.
BZZZ. BZZZ.
He nodded, satisfied.
I observed the maneuver with intense curiosity.
"Dan-dono. Why discharge the rotary weapon into empty air?"
"Pre-flight check," Dan muttered. "You don't go into drywall cold. It's the law."
Then he reached into his tool pouch and drew a black plastic device with red lights.
A stud sensor. An instrument capable of detecting the hidden wooden bones within the palace walls.
He did not place it against the wall.
Instead, Dan raised the sensor to his own chest, pressed the activation switch, and held it firmly against his flannel shirt.
BEEP.
A small red light flashed over his sternum.
Dan looked directly at his wife, who had just entered the garage with a basket of laundry.
He did not smile. He maintained the deadpan gravity of a supreme court justice.
"Yup. Still works. Stud found."
His wife did not speak. She rolled her eyes toward the heavens with such violent force that I feared her neck would snap. She turned and walked back into the house without a word.
A terrifying psychological confrontation...!
The woman was silenced by the power of the red light!
Dan handed me the device.
"Your turn, chief. Check your calibration."
I took the sacred talisman with both hands.
To test one's spiritual density before battle... a samurai does not fear the truth of his own soul!
I pressed the sensor against my breastplate.
I closed my eyes.
I waited for judgment.
BEEP.
Dan looked at the light. He looked into my eyes.
He extended a grease-stained hand and gripped my shoulder with solemn reverence.
"I knew it," he whispered. "Two studs on the job. That TV is never coming down."
We mounted the iron bracket in nine minutes.
It does not shift. It does not groan.
Consecrated by the twin beeps of Indiana.
I missed a golden opportunity today. I was unable to live tweet the conversation of the old gray men at Hardee’s.

Watched Mr. Smith goes to Washingon this weekend with my family. What struck me is that boys that were 12ish and saw that movie would be 18 and marching on Omaha Beach.
Dang. @craiggroeschel made a joke about the Bible always being the same, Goliath always dies, etc. and it rubbed me wrong. I shut down after that. I’m counting on the Bible being the same! I don’t want to be cynical this early!

In light of the recent New Yorker article about the many Dan Sullivans, I want to clarify that no, I am not Senator Dan Sullivan. I did stand outside his office, once. I’m sorry if this contributed to the confusion! Occasionally, I do get tagged in social media meant for him....
I wrote something about some bible verses. Numbers 16, "Korah's rebellion" is what it's typically called. I might be camping out there for a few days. Check it out. biblescribbler.com/humbly-ta…
Out Friday for a @Lauren_Daigle concert, then out Monday speaking at a retreat, back in the cockpit today trying to figure out what my job is.
Everyday, from my office, I see people dig in the trash to get food. Today I sat a packet of Peanut Butter and another packet of Jelly out on the bench. I'm watching to see if anyone eats them. I feel like Elijah's ravens.
