September 20, 1982 With the specter of a players' strike looming, the Packers defeat the Giants on Monday Night Football at the Meadowlands, 27-19. Immediately following completion of the contest, the NFLPA players' strike begins — the first regular season strike in NFL history. It would last for 57 days. Twice during the second quarter, the game is eerily delayed due to stadium power outages. During one of the outages — in classic 'Dandy Don' style — ABC's Don Meredith proclaims, "Now's the perfect time to run a quarterback sneak." Meredith also hilariously sings his version of "The Night the Lights Went Out in Jersey" and his old classic refrain, "Turn Out the Lights, the Party's Over" in which he hopes the season isn't over due to the impending work stoppage.
