Digital ID laws are all about harvesting biometric data and watching everything you do online
Don't let any of these corrupt ass governments tell you otherwise

How about we push to not have age verification everywhere and instead require parents to be parents, what a radical idea I know
Replying to @DavidShoebridge
Gamers have been contacting my office about being locked out of their accounts and the genuine anxiety this has caused, so I took it to the eSafety Commissioner in Estimates. eSafety agrees it’s not fair and will keep my office updated as they push Steam for better options.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Steam does not lock users out of their accounts. It restricts only R18+ store pages and new mature purchases behind credit card verification for Australian users; libraries, existing games and other features remain accessible.

Do I even need to say the whole "This is so clearly not meant to protect kids but IS meant to implement a backdoor Digital ID" at this point because come on.

There's always the carrot...allow us to verify your identity "for fraud prevention services."
The more identity data you put out there, the more likely you are to be a victim of fraud.
how are you going to sue ChatGPT for "collecting too much sensitive data" then proceed to force users to hand over MORE sensitive data?
Texas is suing OpenAI because ChatGPT collects too much sensitive data about Texans. AG Ken Paxton's fix is to force every user to hand over ID before they can use it. He also wants a court-approved evaluator to sign off on every new model before Texans are allowed to talk to it. The state says it's worried about private conversations...so it wants each one tied to a verified name.

GOP Chairman says Florida parents should "demand" the AG's broad digital ID and surveillance mandate...strategically called the "Safe Screens Act".
This mandate will be imposed on every Floridian and it will essentially create a family registry. It is "government as parent" - but they try to tell you Florida is the most parent-friendly state in the country.
Children are not protected by surveillance, data collection, Digital ID and censorship.
Florida's AG @JamesUthmeierFL just unveiled the Safe Screens Act: age verification for app stores, strict default limits on teen social media use, and a ban on AI chatbots simulating "companionship" with kids. Big Tech will fight it. Florida parents should demand it.
This is seriously further proof they just want a backdoor Digital ID and are USING kids to get it. Disgusting.
They will either have to monitor your phone activity to guess your age or verify your age via your ID. Either option violates our Amendment Rights.
Florida's AG is proposing age verification at the smartphone OS level, which could make it one of the deepest ID age verification infrastructures in the country.
"There is no engineering shortcut: an OS-level age API works by collecting a birthdate at device setup, assigning the user to an age bracket (under 13, 13–15, 16–17, or 18-plus), and exposing that bracket to every app that requests it. The result is that every adult in Florida who owns an Apple or Google device would register their birthdate with that company as a condition of OS compliance — not to access any particular content, but to use their phone at all."
Digital ID does not protect children online.
This is "government as parent" - and the government makes a terrible parent.

Florida’s HB 3 bans kids under 14 from social media accounts even if parents explicitly approve.
🚫 No consent option. 🚫 No override. The state decides, not parents.
That’s not protecting parental rights. That’s government replacing them.

Politicians supporting Age Verification, App Store Accountability acts, and Know Your Customer (KYC) are putting you in danger in exchange for impressing mom's to get their votes.
Governments keep telling us ID checks will make the internet safer. Here is what an ID check actually did for a woman in Pennsylvania.
Cash App demanded Social Security numbers to stop fraud. Hers leaked in a data breach, a scammer opened an account with it, and the police arrested her for his crime. She spent three nights in jail. Cash App now refuses to show her the account because she can’t prove it’s hers, which is exactly what she has been telling them.
Every ID check builds another vault of stolen identities waiting to happen. The more of them we’re forced through, the easier fraud gets, and the people paying for it are the ones who did everything they were told.
Entire country drops Social Media ban because it was "too authoritarian" - youtu.be/DKbANE682Nk
Look, if the government REALLY wants to protect kids, they’d pursue epstein’s clients. For some odd reason they stubbornly won’t, which is VERY weird considering how they’re SOOOOOO concerned for the kids’ safety…
'OUR KIDS ARE TOO IMPORTANT': @AGJamesUthmeier proposes binding phone manufacturers and app stores to parental consent laws, blasting tech giants for putting profits over kid safety
“They are fighting us in court to have 12-year-olds addicted to their applications."
if we’re going to compare this stuff to casinos then I’m obliged to ask: why are parents WILLINGLY taking their kids to what they consider to be a *casino* and know is addictive?

Uthmeier desperately wants digital ID for Floridians.
His proposed legislation - should he be elected - would be massive surveillance and digital ID from operating systems to social media to AI.
Days after Florida lost its bid for a court order forcing Meta Platforms to overhaul Instagram and Facebook for teens in the state, its attorney general said he was proposing legislation that would force the company to make the same changes. reuters.com/legal/government…

FL Attorney General announces his legislation: Safe Screens Act
Bill text is not available yet. From the press conference the policy will include:
🔸App Store Accountability Act + additional device level age verification
🔸quiet mode 11pm to 1am
🔸addictive features turned off by default, parents can turn on
🔸cosmetic/beauty filters off
🔸limited use - 2 hours day/60 hours month
🔸teen accounts may not be recommended to other users
👍human review of predator reports within 48 hours
To do the first 6 things on this list requires "big bad Big Tech" to do government mandated data collection, ID age verification, verified parental consent (lots of personal data), monitoring and tracking accounts, and censoring the digital world. This is a digital ID and state surveillance framework.
This kind of policy pushes parents into the back seat and puts government "in the driver's seat." Most critically, this kind of policy does nothing to solve the very real problem we have with children and screentime.
