A. Michael Noll in 1967: "The creative potentialities of the computer result in a totally new kind of artistic medium — a creative medium with which the artist can interact. The potential of such a medium as collaborator with the artist is truly exciting." From "Art and Science: Two Worlds Merge." Bell Telephone Magazine, vol. 46, no. 6, Nov.–Dec. 1967, pp. 12–19.
New essay up about computer art pioneer A Michael Noll written by @Noahbolanowski. Noah interviewed Noll extensively over the summer and has assembled perhaps the most thorough accounting of Noll's works and history. Link below. Over the past year I've had the pleasure of getting to know A Michael Noll. Noll is a true pioneer of computer art, creating some of the earliest (and most thoughtful) visual and animated computer art at Bell Laboratories as early 1962. His art directly influenced several popular artists of the time, including Salvador Dali. And it was a pleasure to work with @Noahbolanowski, who is incredibly knowledgeable and the premier researcher around historical digital and computer art.

These new models are pretty crazy. In an afternoon (mostly passive) + one flight I built an IDE for Python for iOS that runs Pyodide, has a debugger, embeds linter and formatter, pi-durable powered coding agent and does iCloud Drive and all the other things too.

Today, no one would be able to imagine the defrag UI. It would be some stupid progress bar that would appear to be stuck and occasionally say "Hang on! just a little longer".
Running defrag in 86Box just to watch the blocks move. This is my therapy now.

I love how everyone thought neuralese was going to be ones and zeros, and it turned out to be metaphor pointers to super dense memetics in latent space.
