Sovereign AI means a country can develop, run, and control its own AI systems including the data, infrastructure, models, and legal rules without depending heavily on foreign technology providers. For Africa, this is becoming critical. If AI systems are built entirely on foreign platforms, the economic value, data control, and strategic power leave the continent. Sovereign AI allows countries to protect sensitive data, build local tech talent, strengthen security, and keep the economic benefits of AI within their economies.
