Precisely put Afande.
Economic discipline, transparency and accountability are essential for protecting Ugandans’ wealth and building a stable, productive economy.
The IMF’s 2026 Article IV assessment emphasises the importance of stronger public financial management, expenditure discipline, anti corruption measures and reforms that support private sector led growth. Similarly, the Ministry of Finance’s September 2026 report identifies speculation in the foreign exchange market, alongside rising global oil prices and seasonal demand for foreign currency, as contributing factors to the shilling’s depreciation.
The key is to ensure that the transition towards greater economic order strengthens investor confidence, protects ordinary citizens, promotes fair competition and rewards genuine enterprise. A disciplined economy must ultimately deliver stability, opportunity and prosperity for the people.

The Uganda Revenue Authority needs to invest more in helping businesses to succeed.
From biblical times, the taxman Zacchaeus was not liked. The business of collecting taxes is not easy. I really understand this.
Nevertheless, over the years, and more so recently, there seems to be a shrill yet loud voice across the business community complaining about URA’s aggressiveness. Some say that URA behaves as if they don’t want businesses to exist, survive, or thrive! This would be strange because without businesses, what would be the business of URA? Of course, there are cases—and many cases—where some in the business community want to game the system!
I think there is a middle ground that can be found where businesses would be happy to comply and have their service expectations met. One businessman told me that a URA staff member (relationship manager) slapped a tax assessment on his business with strange, astronomical and mountain amounts that would bankrupt everything he has worked for and lived for.
“The procedure to navigate the assessment is cumbersome and requires hours of dealing with URA officials at the headquarters who show you that you need them more than they need you!”
Of course, I have met some great people and leaders at URA—but there seems to be an anti-business and anti-people tendency creeping in at URA. It can change. 🙏🏿 @URAuganda @URA_CG

Makerere’s sensors bring air-quality Monitoring to African cities
Makerere University’s low-cost air-quality sensors have identified pollution hotspots in Greater Kampala, including Kawempe and Nansana. The data has informed air-quality regulations, but experts say stronger enforcement is needed to turn pollution monitoring into cleaner air.

Africa’s Digital Single Market presents a huge opportunity. 🌍
With intra-African trade potentially growing by up to 30% by 2030 and e-commerce projected to reach $113 billion by 2029, we must prioritise interoperability, trusted digital payments and cybersecurity.
Our systems must connect markets, empower MSMEs and turn digital connections into economic opportunities.

Today, His Majesty King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I received a delegation from Mountains of the Moon University led by the Chancellor, Professor Edward Rugumayo Amooti, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Pius Achanga Amooti, and the Chairman of the University Council, Engineer Dr Manyindo Akiiki.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between Tooro Kingdom and Mountains of the Moon University, with particular focus on the agreed deliverables and the practical steps required to move the partnership into implementation.
This partnership presents significant opportunities to serve the people of Tooro and Uganda through education, research, agriculture, skills development, and other areas of mutual interest.
