Our letter to the editor in The Lancet critiquing the MD Anderson-led trial of protons v photons for OPC. Appreciate @SJFrankMD's well thought out response. I think we can all agree on two points: 1) Steve deserves major kudos for bringing level 1 evidence to the debate on protons v photons for OPC. These trials are extraordinarily difficult to run, and Steve, et al pulled it off. Well done! 2) Longer term follow-up from TORPEdO will help tease out the extent to which protons improves OS in OPC. @CJTsaiMDPhD @drlorenmell @xrtGenomics @DavidSherMD #radonc #hncsm thelancet.com/journals/lance…

The ideal day in medicine without specialists: 9am: perform an EBUS 10am: knee replacement 12pm: admit a patient with acute hyponatremia 1pm: cardiac cath on a STEMI → triple vessel disease → convert to CABG 3pm: read a blood film for schistocytes 5pm: deliver a baby
FINALLY someone is saying it out loud Casey Means explains the only reason everyone has to go and see a “specialist” for every single different part of the body now instead of just one doctor is because the medial industrial complex makes more money It’s by design. For profit.

Shooting quarks into tumors is a unique quirk of the Florida medical landscape
Mayo Clinic’s doctors and researchers are on the front lines of Florida’s fight against cancer. Today, we were happy to announce that Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville will be launching the first carbon ion therapy program in America. Carbon ion therapy, one of the most advanced forms of radiation treatment in the world, is designed to attack some of the most aggressive and treatment-resistant cancers. This cutting-edge treatment has the potential to save lives and give hope to those who need it most. Proton therapy will also be available in the same facility, allowing specialists to treat tumors with a higher degree of precision. While carbon ion therapy was originally discovered in the United States decades ago, it has only been available at a limited number of centers in Asia and Europe until now. Soon, cancer patients will have access to therapies that previously required traveling across the world, right here in Florida.

Replying to @j_luh
The editors at JAMA Internal Medicine have long opposed screening and appear eager to promote reports that perpetuate radiophobia, even rejecting letters to the editor that point out flaws in such reports. As a result, JAMA Internal Medicine has lost credibility as a reliable source for studies on early detection. Fortunately, the main JAMA journal continues to excel in this area and has preserved its historical scientific integrity.
